Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yep. 2 summers ago, one flew into helmet vent and nailed me on top of the head Last summer while riding down a hill, one flew into my jersey and nailed me on the chest Funny, when I was a kid/teenager, I don't remember the area of the bee stings itching for a week or so like they do now

Incidentally, my glasses are always inside of the helmet straps. I don't know why 99% of the pros wear them outside of the helmet straps. It's so easy for me to quickly remove my helmet (without affecting the glasses at all) while riding when my glasses are inside the straps.

They probably claim it's more aerodynamic.

The straps on my helmet are usually rather tight. I'm sure you can figure out my reasoning from there.

Happened to me a few weeks ago. Felt something hit my helmet then my head and then - crap! - sharp pain in head. Stopped and pulled my helmet off just in time to see the culprit fly off. But of course, he's dead now and I just had a sore spot for a few hours.

I've been stung inside the helmet. I was on a fixed gear and couldn't stop very quickly. He got me twice, but it was nothing compared to THAT^^^.

I wasn't stung, but my sunglasses were caught by my strap, and sent under my back tire.

The silver lining is it's spring time!
It happened to me last year, although I'm not quite sure whether it was a bee/hornet/wasp or just some large bug since it was dusky. But due to my receding hairline and balding crown I've always worn my helmet with the winter liner, so I luckily didn't get stung. It just flew out after a few seconds.

LOL. Thanks for the good laugh. Reminded me of the time I was in grade school and got stung by a red fire ant. I was so mad at it I vengefully squeezed it between my thumb and forefinger.

I recently bough a LAS Victory helmet. The winter pads have mesh to keep bugs out.

Keeps straps snug to your head which is quieter.

This happens a couple of times a year to me. Really annoying, especially if you wear your glasses on top of your straps as the OP points out. The helmets with the built in screens seem like a great idea. I may paste some plastic screening in the front of my helmet.

Here in Utah bees and wasps aren't so much of a concern--I've never had one in my helmet. But flying beetles and big grasshoppers hurt if you take one in the face at 45mph coming down one of our local canyons! Another reason to ride early or late in the day when the weather warms.
