As far as the Photobucket deal i knew about that but there was always a place holder type image when the photo was missing. Now it's like even the quoted text is missing or messed up. What ever happen really messed up many old long running threads here on BF.

I’ve been meaning to post my bikes here in this thread for some time now. Most of them have been posted on these forums before in their own threads. Some have stories, some don’t. Posted in order in which I got them.

This 1996 Panama Blue (matte) H600 came my way from a friend. Her health didn’t allow her to ride it any longer so she gave it to me for free. She bought it new from a local bike shop and it’s all 100% original other than the Brooks B17 saddle she installed on it and of course the SPD pedals I installed. She even had a Cannondale handlebar bag installed when she bought it.

The rear derailleur is Shimano STX 7 speed, Grip Shift SRT 400 shifters, front derailleur and crank are Alivio. Brakes are Shimano cantilever and the hubs are Acera X HB-290 with Sun L18 rims. Seat post is a CODA 9000 suspension post that still functions. The only thing that needs repaired is the DD25 Headshok as one might aspect with a bike of this age. The lockout still works but the elastomer spring is toast.

Ol' Blue doesn’t get many pleasure miles anymore, instead is used for utility duty hauling groceries or trips to the mall for supplies which the hybrid is perfect for. As i said in the original post on this bike, this is the bike that showed me what a quality bike is and showed me I wanted a road bike. (link to my 2009 Synaspe 5) This bike is still very much fun to ride for those lazy, easy going trips around the 'hood.

This one just squeaks in the year 2000 dead line. I found this bike on Ebay out in Seattle at a Goodwill store. I was lucky and have a friend who lives out there since it was a local pick up only auction. He collected the bike, took it to his LBS and shipped it to me. I could tell from the poor photos that it had been sitting a very long time but felt it was worth at least look so I went for it. When I opened the box my heart about sunk at first site of the condition it is was in. As I looked at it, I decided it was worth the effort of seeing just what could be done with it.

Cannondale calls the color Super Black (matte) that today they would call BBQ. It has all original group on it other than the saddle and pedals. The Fatty 70mm Headshok still works completely. The hydraulic front disc brake was inoperable much like everything else but I took it apart like everything else on the bike, cleaned it up and worked on it and managed to get it to function again. While playing around on Ebay one day I found a NOS matching rear hydraulic disc brake setup for the rear. The frame and wheel was setup for disc in the rear so all it took was to bolt it on. A deep cleaning of the derailleurs, cassette and chain rings, new cables and a new chain along with new grease in the crank bearings (wheels are sealed) and things started to look up for the poor thing. The front wheel had a pretty big wobble in it but again after cleaning and some work on the truing stand I got it back in shape. My local Cannondale shop had that super long seat post which brought it all together. Some Hakkapeliitta W240 studded snow tires, a set of fenders and it is a great IceBike for winter duties .

The group: Front and rear (8 speed) derailleurs are Shimano Deore XT, Shimano Deore Rapidfire Plus shifters. Cranks, hubs, bars and stem are all Cannondale CODA pieces. The wheels are Weinmann ZAC19 size 26 x 1.5. Brakes are Magura Clara HS11 hydraulic disc front & rear. All in all just another very fun bike to ride. Kicking around the idea of getting some dirt trail knobblies for it this summer to play in the dirt with it.

This bike has been posted before, you can read all of the details there if you want. Short version is it was in sad shape when I bought it off Craig’s List. Mis-matched wheels and tires and no saddle. The real odd thing is the decal on the downtube. The Cannondale decal should have been on the top tube for this year. (1992 Cannondale went to the downtube decal) I’ve never been able to find a reason this one is like this other than it might have been repainted at some point in its life. I really just don’t know.

Anyway after some time I found correct wheels and saddle for it from a member here. Since all the group was factory original I just cleaned it up and it is what it is. It rides wonderful, is smooth and fun.

The group: F&R Derailleurs Black/Gold highlights SunTour Sprint 9000, SunTour indexed shifters, SunTour Winner Pro 6 speed freewheel (24/13), Sugino AP 130 crankset, Royal Gran Compe 400 brake group, Nitto black/gold bars an stem, Stronglight Delta headset, Sansin hubs w/ Wolber Alpine rims. Cinelli Volare SLX saddle. About the only things missing is a gold chain. Other than as mentioned the goofy downtube decal it’s a complete Black Lighting.

This one is new to me and the forums here. My friend and I were out riding a few weeks ago and while stopped at a light I asked him, “you been to the bike collective lately?”
“Nope.”
“Do you just want to go poke around?”
“Why do you need something?”
“Nope."

Then this thing was sitting there just begging to be given the once over. Then a second look and before I knew I had it upside down looking up the serial number to see just what this was.

This is a 1997 R800 CAD3 in Viper Red fade to Speed Yellow built in May size 58. Further research leads me to believe this is a frame up build. Unless whoever had this bike upgraded the group it just about has to be. The reason I say this is bike has a complete Shimano 600 Tri-Color group. And I mean every part, the shifters, derailleurs, cranks, hubs, head set and brakes. The only things that are not are the rims which are Campagnolo Moskva 80, the rings are Shimano SG, the bars are Cinelli and some butt ugly stem. According to the 1997 Cannondale catalog this bike should have a Shimano 105SC group with Mavic wheels. The only thing I don’t care for is the that butt ugly stem. I would like to find the appropriate one for it. I don’t really have any idea what brand it should be other than polished aluminum. So if anyone knows what the stem (Mavic?) should be so I can look for one that would be a lot of help.

So needless to say I found it very hard to say no to this beautiful bike that had an attractive price tag.
There isn’t much else to say about this bike. It rode nice the one time I got to ride it before the snow fell.

I just got it a few days ago from a friend who had it. After I had sent him a photo of the red and yellow R800 he sends me back a photo of this bike and said “I’ll make you a good deal.” Ugh. All these photos are as the bike sits right now.

It’s in pretty good shape and it is a complete Mavic group except it’s missing the front derailleur and has an odd Shimano right crank arm and 39/53 rings but still has a Mavic crank on the left side. So if anyone around these here has the parts I need I would be open to buying them from you. I’m not sure what model the FD is since the all the catalog says is “Mavic New for 1992.” The RD is a Mavic 8 speed 840 if that is any help in identifying the front. The crank is a Mavic 631 which looks really cool in the catalog.

The group is All Mavic as I said. Hubs are 550RD, 556RD, rims are Mavic Open 4 CD, shifters are Mavic 821, handlebars 351, stem is 365, headset 305, brakes are Mavic “new for 1992” which look pretty cool. But none of the pieces have markings (per model) to prove they are in fact correct but match the photos in the catalog, the bars and rims being the exceptions. The saddle is some Cannondale branded thing but should be a Flite with Titanium rails, there seems to be a few of those on eBay. Seatpost is suppose to be a Kingsbery USA but is unknown to me, see photo. Any idea? Another odd part is it has DuraAce 28/12 freewheel but should be Sachs 8 speed 12/21. It still has what appears to be the original Sedis chain. The last odd thing is the paint on the fork. Looking at the catalog it should be all black but as you can see is black fade to yellow and the bike has these little black and yellow stars on it. So I’m not sure what all that is about but it sure looks neat.

So I need the following and will entertain any reasonable offers for sale, I don’t really have anything to trade so…
Crank set or just the right side Mavic 631 39/53 (pic below from catalog)
Mavic front derailleur, clamp on bottom pull from what I can tell again from the catalog which oddly enough appears to be a braze on style. I have a hunch though I'll end up just using some Shimano part.

The following are “would be nice to have” just to complete the bike...
Freewheel, Sachs 8 speed 12/21 but I can live with what is on it.
Saddle, a Flite with titanium.
Seat post black Kingsbery 27.2mm

So that’s it. Other than needing new cables, bar tape, the wheels need tuned up and a good cleaning up it’s in pretty good shape and a nice survivor.

I’m N+1ed out, no more. I wasn’t even looking for these last two dang it! That is all of my bikes. My riding buddy also has a 1992 R500 that I will post someday when I get some photos of it. It's a nice original bike too.

fasthair, Cannondale's framesets and replacement frames did't have model numbers.
While the Mavic bike wasn't popular in my area I think it would be an excellent bike for restoration to original. The red / yellow fade was very popular around here. Good double purchase IMHO.

Hello all! I haven't been in the C&V space for a while (did you miss me? :-) ) But I knew you would withdraw my bike nerd card if I didn't share this.

Yesterday I came upon this near minty 1985 'Dale ST-400. Still all OEM except for the brake levers, down to the dork disk and rear reflector. (The brake levers are Dia-Compe Aero Gran Compe, installed because the guy ran a clip-on aero bar for a triathlon.) It's not unheard of to find a vintage bike that is OEM, but to find on this clean is amazing! Even the little crevices around the BB cluster are spotless, and missing the row of chain dings and scrapes down the chainstay and gunked up pulleys. I mean, WOW!

It's pre-index Shimano 600EX 12-2peed, with Specialized Touring 27x1-1/8 tires that actually measure .9" (of course).

I found this bike in a search for a proper frame for a near-full 9-speed Ultegra group my buddy gave me. I just have to find some 700C hoops to build up the wheels.

I picked this C'dale ST up on ebay for a good price, and it's not even actually here yet. I've been trying to nail down the year and model, but can't seem to match it up with any catalogs I've checked. The seller thought 1992, but the newer ones have canti's and this one has Regal Compe.

The closest I've come is a 1988 ST700, pretty much everything matches up except the color. The catalog says red and the photos say black.

Can anyone shed any light on this one? Thanks in advance.

It looks like you're right, 1989 ST600 in black. Appears to be completely stock except for the rear carrier. Will need to replace all consumables and lube/grease everything and should be good to go. It is almost 30 years old, after all.

Realistically, will replace the saddle too - does that count as a consumable?

Depending on the condition of the hubs, may switch to a 7 speed freewheel with 8 speed indexed bar end shifters (minus 1 click) and call it good. I would like to use Compass tires, but that would require lacing the hubs to 700c rims. I already have some 27" Pasela tires, so will probably ride it for a while on the 27" rims before going down that road (ha).

It has the Black Lightning look, which I really like.

Until it stops raining all the time and/or stays light longer, indoor shots will be the name of the game like it is here. I had a coworker interested in this bike back when it had 10-speed STIs, but he eventually declined. I had contemplated refitting it with 3x9 Veloce at some point, and had it partially disassembled, with a few parts going toward my future Miyata 1000 build. Weeellllll, let's just use the Cannondale as a test bed to see if certain things work or not. Like fit to frame, or a 32T big cog with a 7800 short cage RD (works flawlessly!).

I didn't yet have the 120mm Technomic stem you see here, so a 120mm Cinelli stem (73° so it angled upwards) and Cinelli 66-series bars were placeholders as I tested out the 3x9 down tube Dura-Ace setup. Out on the road, the slightly narrower bars, different wheels (than before), and B17 saddle (vs. the nice Fizik one originally) were game changers. Instantly smitten! Amazing what small changes can do to set a bike right, or in this case, really right. Other ST owners know this, but for the uninitiated, you gotta feel how this thing acts when you're accelerating out of the saddle.

I still haven't been able to test ride the bike with this new stem/bar setup (Nitto + Soma Highway 1), but it is how I want it (comfortable and more upright). Cannot wait to get it out (again) on dry pavement!!

Brad: That explains the red/yellow bike not having model number on it. It also makes sense that it is a frame up build with Shimano 600 Tri-Color on it now.

The black/yellow bike is a cool rare bike I think. I will not be restoring the bike however, it's a survivor and as such I will be just bring it back to original component level and just enjoy riding it. I will touch up the paint at the rear but that is all I will do as far as paint goes. I've found all the parts on E-Bay to finish the project.

Which brings up a question for the group. What size quill stem do I need to be looking for to replace that butt ugly stem on the red/yellow bike. 1 inch or? I'm thinking of a Nitto stem and bars. I've never been a fan of Ergo bars. I never cared for the feel or the looks of them.

I have a Criterium model in full tri color also , - catalog scans show 105 and it says Shimano 105 on the chainstay -- but its 600 across the board, --- headset and bottom bracket included. Bike also had the dork disc and reflectors when i bought it

You just never know what is going to be there. My riding buddy was lusting over the old Fugi in the front window that day but they just wanted too much (IMO an his) for it. He has a 1972 Fugi Finest that he bought new as a teenager. It's a sweet white bike with chrome lugs and socks on the fork and rear triangle. He's upgraded it to all Campy of the day so it's pretty nice.

Is it just me or do the Cannondales remind others about the paints used on the early 356's and 911's?
There is something to be said about the understated graphics along with the color palette of the "Dales" that I really appreciated..I have a Black Lightning and love most of the other colors.
Very simple and sometimes unexpected but they just seem right and wear well.

Really cool. Those brake levers look just like Modolos, which came in both metal and composite levers and bodies, also with both white and black hoods..... They modulate so well and have a nice pull, as the cable actually enters the brake lever about halfway down the lever, and goes over an extra pulley at the top of the lever, giving it extra leverage and a smoother pull.

I dig that bike.

Finally was able to unbox my 1989 Cannondale ST600. It was packed better than I have seen, and came through the trip unscathed. It looks practically unridden, but will need consumables replaced. The brake cables are too short, and the rear rim needs a bit of truing. But in general, for $175, I think it's a nice ST.
