I went all the way through this '86 Del Rey a few weeks ago and listed it for sale. I'm trying to thin the herd and since I also have an '86 Team Fuji I figured this one was expendable. 3 weeks and only one hit and it was a scammer so it looks like it stays. That doesn't exactly break my heart.

That Team Fuji is a very nice bike, congrats on finding it and buying it. That quad butted tube set that Fuji made was the finest tube set out of Japan during that time, and dare I say probably better than any of the Italian or British tubes...or at the very least tied with their top-end tubing.

Nice blue paint on the Team, so many of the ones I've come across have rust on the tope tube. That's a beauty!

The funny thing is that I had never heard of nor seen this bike until two weeks ago. All of the sudden an older coworker asked me if I could get his bike road ready, a bike that he had not ridden in around 20 years and maybe sat on a couple of times before that. Then BOOM this shows up in my office. All I had to do was a quick tune up, add pedals and tubes and voilà it was ready to go. I returned it to him and he couldn't have been more pleased. Turns out he smoked a heck of a lot of Marlboro Reds back in the day to get this bike....Then I cycle home that evening and my neighbor, an MTA bus driver, rolls up behind me just as I unclip. He was on the SAME bike as my coworker. He recently dug it out of the garage after about the same number of years and is now commuting to his bus depot on it. Turns out his father smoked a ton of Marlboro's at that time for the bike. It seems like such a strange promotion, smoke a ton to get a bike... So odd but great to see them being ridden.

Yeah, the irony of a smoke-to-earn bike in reference to this model has been raised elsewhere here on BF. Alas, I had to witness the early stages of slow-motion death of one of these. Someone cabled one up to a pole on my street, several blocks up, and never rode it again. Every week, walking to the farmer's market (and every now and then, depending on my route, commuting past it), I saw the paint fade in the baking sun, the rust eat at the steel fasteners, the snow bury it for the winter and eventually melt away. Late that next spring, the city must have cut it off and taken it away, probably oblivious to what an oddball it was. It was flat pink by then.

What started a few years ago as a curiosity (scoring a Touring Series IV on eBay) turned into a near-obsession... Now I own several Fujis, including a '85 Touring Series V, '79/80 America, three Touring Series IVs, and a late 70s Monterrey (NOS frame that I plan to build up)... Alas I plan to sell all (except one)... the herd is simply too big to feed... Choosing which to keep is AGONIZING!!!

Well, between the two TS IV and the TS V you should keep the TS V because it's essentially the same bike but slightly better due to having the low rider pannier mounts on the forks.

Actually one of my IVs has low rider pannier mounts (and the other 2 don't... puzzling). The IV and V are pretty similar, but the V offers a few extras: fork is full chromoly, gran compe brakes, barcons, and LeTech derailleur. The ride on both is sensational.

Whoa! Must’ve been added after the fact, or I wonder if some were made late in the run that had this added? If factory that’s pretty unique.

Either way, the V still wins!

I picked up a NOS Monterey frame set several years ago and have been collecting pieces since, NOS wherever possible but I upgraded to the "FUJI" pantographed derailleurs and crankset. Mine is an '82, the seller had been a FUJI dealer back in the 80's and when he closed shop had a bunch of inventory left. He had a bunch of them at the time all 25" 1982's in blue or red. A year or so later the remaining frames showed up with a different seller minus the headsets and bottom brackets and twice the money.

A few years ago, I leased a '15 Toyota Camry LE. Base model, nothing fancy. The door sticker said it was 'Made by Subaru Tri-States Plant' (I'm guessing that is southern Indiana). Go figure...

Here's one i just finished . 1983 Fuji del Rey built as a town bike . 25 " frame so its one size too big for me so it has to go . Its a nice ride though

That is a good looking Opus III. I have the same bike but it isn't in as good condition as yours. I rode mine last week. It is very fast but super stiff riding--I think a true racing bike. What is your impression?
