Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

and that European Posterior Man Satchel must go....... just playin man, dont let us tell you what to do... its your ride not ours, if your comfortable without a flipped and slammed stem, dont flip it and slam it, if you wanna carry your stuff in a pouch, do it... just cuz you don't conform to other people's aesthetic tastes doesn't mean your a loser, if anything we're losers for taking the time to point out stupid stuff like that. I'm jealous of that bike even as it sits

~19 lbs. Shop weighed it: 19.1. I weighed it: 19. Pretty light. Not a Super Six, that's for sure but light enough. Yeah, gonna get a more compact bag and maybe some other cages although a cage is a cage to me. The comments are fine. No bigee. Got thick skin here and hey, a jab is a jab. I have a sense of humor.

Yeah on my KHS I've always been like "a cage is a cage". But then the shop put the same type on my new Felt and I thought dang, those carbon or composite ones sure would look a ton nicer, and maybe be a tad lighter, too.

Just from the bike being lighter? Or something to do with geometry, gearing, something else?

I'm still slow as balls up hills on my Felt, so anything I can do to get better would be great. I know I know... training training training!!!

Congratulations on the bike!

I got my Tarmac in late April and already put about 3200 miles on it. It is a great bike, especially for climbing. But I've noticed I go faster all-around, even into the wind.

Have you had a fitting yet?

aztimm: I had a fitting on the Allez. The geometry is basically the same. I just set the Tarmac up like the Allez was. Only difference I could find was the bar stem was about 1/2" longer on the Tarmac but feels good to be stretched out a little more.

Patrick: lighter, stiffer, and BB30 all add up to much faster and yet easier and yet smoother ride.

Sorry I'm still a bit of a n00b on some of this stuff, but what does the BB30 bottom bracket do for you? I understand it's some kind of industry standard pioneered by Cannondale, but don't know the benefits.

I've still got my aluminum cages on my 2003 khs flite 500 still with sora groupo, i dont see much of a need to shed a few grams when my bike is damn near 22 lbs anyway

Not for weight savings, on the Felt. Really just for looks is why I want to change mine. The plastic and/or composite ones just look sleeker IMHO.

If it is free, I'd still go for a fitting. If I had to pay, it would depend I guess...$50ish I'd still do it. Just easier to have someone else take a look at how you're riding and make the adjustments. Are you using the same pedals and shoes as your last bike? (I upgraded to Speedplay Zero's for my Tarmac, from SPD's) If you changed either, I'd definitely have a new fitting.

I'm at the point now where I've already replaced the chain, tires, and almost time for a new derailleur. Mine came with white tape, which is a PITA to keep clean, so I'll probably do that soon too.
Specialized has some good bottle holders that would look really nice on your bike

Got to Aunt Ethyl's. You can tell by the rug on the floor. She had a new seat bag and cages for me. Love Auntie Ethyl!
