Should UCI pros be allowed to record in-race footage?
Was talking with a UCI Cx pro Youtuber about why he doesn't have any in-race footage. Says UCI won't allow it.
So silly. UCI always thinking of ways to shrink the sport.

Like most sports, cycling is slow to catch up with modern times. There's also the rights fees; just because you compete in an event doesn't mean you have a right to distribute / display the content, so some may view a gopro on a bike during a race like a person in the stands bootlegging a concert with a phone.
If it were to happen its not going to be released until well after the TV producers clear it; maybe 12 weeks after the race. Like it or not its still direct competition.

It should only be allowed if the race officials are given unedited footage for race review, and even disciplinary actions. It could be both a good and bad thing for an individual or team depending on where one is in relation to some "event".
It wouldn't necessarily compete with news channels. I could imagine many news channels would sponsor a camera setup, especially if they could use a short-range transmitter, and download the videos on the fly. But, at least get a nightly video dump for post race analysis and commentary.
It has to be a lot cheaper to buy a dozen micro cameras than flying a helicopter.

The blogger cannot use even short-snippets of on-race footage at any time. He is not allowed to record on-bike race footage at all.
What do I care. Let the sport suffer and die.

Non affiliated club races are free to do what they choose.
NBCSN (cable) had video from on board cameras, and used video from them in the US broadcast race coverage last year.

So, how long from the time when the cameras are apparently prohibited until they will be required for all riders? Front/Back/wide angle?
How many crashes or incidents occur off-camera, or only recorded by personal cameras/videos? Riders that get ignored because they aren't in the top 10?
I could imagine the benefits of getting right down into the race with the riders, as well as a huge marketing potential for virtual landscapes for riding exercise machines.

I dunno. During TdF, one thing I do every day is to go to the GoPro channel, where they have a video of various on-bike/helmet views taken from that day's stage. I watched the Orica team channel too, same thing, lots of in-race views.
Maybe he just doesn't know the rules?
