Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oddly I can't feel exactly where mine is. About the only thing I can do that may help is lie down.

It was a bike maintenance morning. After talking about it for a while, I finally got around to retiring my rear tire; final mileage count was just short of 2,800 - that's good in my book.

Chains freshly waxed and bike (somewhat) cleaned, too.

Fiddy degrees this AM at my house, although the town proper reported 43. My property changes slowly.

But all they do is tell time. Like watches are supposed to.

At this point, I'd be happy for some late fall weather, because here that means rain, and rain would be welcome. REALLY welcome. Like, out-in-the-streets-dancing-in-it welcome.

It's supposed to be about 50F for the start of tomorrow's ride. I am going to try to get by with adding just a gilet and knee warmers, likely to pitch both after a couple hours when temps go above 60.

That sounds nice! I seem to thrive in cooler temps.

A tyre needs to render 5000+ miles of faithful service to earn the Velo Vol stamp of approval.

I've never spent more than $50 on a watch.

The low last night was 65F. I was having trouble sleeping so I turned on my electric heating pad. It worked.

Thanks to quartz, you've never had to. Used to be that more money for a watch bought you more accuracy. Then came quartz, and you could get a watch more accurate than any mechanical watch could ever be, for $10.
