Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I mention that, because once an old boss of mine was being deposed in a patent lawsuit, and they asked the standard question, "Do you have any mental or physical condition that would prevent you from answering honestly?", to which he replied, "How would I know?"

Which seems a completely reasonable answer.

In all seriousness, there’s a fitter here that’s supposed to be great at just this, he’s just not taking on fittings yet.

And here's where I'm jealous of WhyFi's physique - my weight explodes after big days. Like I said, I didn't dare to check the scale yesterday, and today I'm at 179. It'll take me a few days to peel off whatever that all is. Time to go hit the Veloway.

137-143 for me, depending on fluid balance. Trying like hell to keep some muscle on the upper body.

Intervals told me my estimated FTP broke 200 today, putting me at about the median for the 60-69 age group.

179 is the "three pounds light" that I weighed in at yesterday.

Same here. I've always wondered if it's water retention in the muscles like in tears or something.

That does happen when there’s enough inflammation. The swelling is also visible. Don’t we gym bros call that looking “pumped” or something?

Yeah, I read it somewhere once. Anyway, seems to goes away in a day or two as does the surprise weight gain.

Weird. I'm certainly familiar with getting my pump on, from days when I was lifting as a yute, but I'm trying to think of weight bumps after hard days on the bike. I know that I've come across a few head-scratchers where my weight went in the opposite direction than I'd thought it would, but I never keyed in on a pattern. LSDs almost always result in a dip in weight for me, but now I'm wondering if more punchy rides are the ones that see a bump. Maybe I'll have a look over the numbers.
