Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Wrecked my Trek 520 looking to build a gravel bike

Last night I wrecked my Trek 520 in a collision in the dark with a center post. The downtube is hopelessly bent. I am looking to find a cheap Alu frame with V-brake bosses to rebuild it into a gravel bike which was what I was using it for. I am having some difficulty. Does it need to be a cyclocross or will a hybrid frame do? So far the cheapest I've found is a Surly Crosscheck frame for ~$600.

Any advice. Parts are 135 wheels and 105 6500 series triple octalink (9 speed) with barcons.

frames with canti brake studs are getting harder to find new, but the used market is full of them. I tend to focus on steel bikes, so bear with me.

Black Mountain Monstercross. They should have more in stock soon.
New Albion Privateer

the following might have something like what you're looking for but might be out of your budget: Wabi, Crust, Rivendell, Motobecane, All-City.

If your wheels are spaced at 135 (vs 130mm road) aside from a Cross Check, a 90's hybrid like Trek 730/750, Bianchi Project (3/5/7), etc would work. How tall are you? I may have something for you.
