Great work. I have a pretty extensive collection of photos, catalogues and ads as well, but this is pretty well complete and the first / best attempt to get a handle on this brand's changes. I would be happy to contribute and, ideally, I'd love to create a Tommasini graphic dating file like that great De Rosa one. I have illustrator experience and actually already started with Pela bb shell traces a while back. pm if interested.

This info has been stuffed into my Bianchi catalog bag for years. I forget where I got it, a show? The Rep? I don't know but judging from the reprint date mentioned it must be '93 literature.

Thanks @Kevindale! What a great effort at deciphering the serial numbers. Ive had a couple Tommasini's but was never quite sure how old they are unless a catalogue cut could be found. One of my bikes, in particular is still a mystery. Its painted in a red, white and blue (stars & stripes motif) and labelled Super Prestige. It has decals and lugs consistent with late 80's, early 90's, but Ive not been able to find any info on when it was created or the background on the paint scheme. here is a pic of the frame, There aren't any S/N traces. Thanks for all the research enjoyed looking through it!

Mid to late 80s would be my guess, it looks alot like mine. Does the dropout have an "X" punched into it?

Interesting. I was under the impression that Super Prestiges were marked with an 'X". Mine has one, it's not easy to see.

Nice and informative post Kevindale I just finished reading most of it. I received my first Tommasini yesterday. It was purchased thru Ebay and the guy selling it stated it was not a Tommasini but a Viner. I bought it as a donner for another project. After reading your post it might be what you have called a "cost efficient" Tommasini. Can you elaborate more on what that is? I'm pretty sure that's PC for cheap version, but I believe you said that was non US market?

I have included some pictures of mine. I can not find any serial numbers anyplace on this frame. The paint seems original, at least not painted over another finish. The color is kind of a coral, or salmon shade of some kind with no metallic flakes.

Thank you for your ongoing cataloguing of Tommasini frames. It seems that I always fall through the cracks when it comes to identifying the make, model, and year of manufacture. I will post photos that I have available, and add when practical. This bike has a non-factory fork (Bottecchia) so no help with that feature. Frame has no markings except an "E" stamped on the BB shell (extremely hard to see without magnification, looks like a "C" or a "J"), shell has 2 slots for venting; 27.0 mm seat post (SP Tubing?), seat stay caps are flat with 3 longitudinal grooves (similar to my Prestige, but no "T" in the middle), short point lugs with cut-outs. Braze-ons: BB shell top mount cable guide, 3 open loop TT cable guides, DT shifter bosses, ST and DT bidon mounting, and CS cable stop; no pump pin or chain hanger . The bike had (as purchased) a Camp NR rear derailleur dated 1983, Triomphe crankset date code "11"(1985). I just saw a similar example posted of what appears to be the exact same frame, but without the grooves in the seatstay caps, and my dropouts are unmarked (the example frame appears to have "GPM" stamps). Time to remove it from the "junk" room and build it back with full camp. Nuovo or Super Record, presently has Galli brake levers and FD, Mirage RD and calipers, Victory shifters, unknown crankset, Tange headset, Sunlite BB, LOOK pedals.
I also have a Prestige, not familiar with the "AIR" model, but it does say "AIR" on the fork. I will post photos when I get back to check it out for other identifiers.

I believe we have the same frame and now I'm confident that we both have Tommasinis, certainly not a Viner. I figure mine to be no earlier than 1983, but more likely an '84-'85 model (only based upon component date codes and models). See photos in previous post. Mine is definitely red with maybe a little fading of the color; I believe that yours might be red also when checked under the FD clamp, although it certainly has an off red color per your photos and description. I would like to know if there is any marking on the BB shell. Mine has an "E" barely discernible even with magnification (probably obvious with the paint removed); I can't see anything from your photo. Do you know what your seat post diameter is? Mine is 27.0mm. These are the only 2 examples I've seen with the 2 slots on the BB. Personally I feel that these frames are less abundant (rarer?) than others; I don't know if it has to do with distribution to the US, or difference in quality per the tube set used. Possibly much more common in Europe if not marketed for overseas.

Mine is definitely Coral in color not red. I have removed everything from the frame to clean and polish it. It is that same shade everywhere. I can not speak for yours, but mine is a contracted frame built by Billato in Italy for Tommasini.

I had a Tommasini Super Prestige in marble white from Columbus TSX tubing. Unfortunately, I sold it when it sprung signs of rust at the head tube lug area. I have since lost a records of it but I do remember that it had Campagnolo horizontal rear drop outs. I hope this info is useful.

I have a Velocista (Columbus Max) in purple. Numbers 355/45 are etched on the underside of bottom bracket shell. Would you know the year of production and color code? Much appreciated.

Dear Tommasini's fans and experts here, thanks for sharing all of this valuable info. With respect, I need your thoughts and helps to find the birthday of my Tommasini.

The tubing is Columbus SL
The paint scheme is red marble
Internal cable routing on top tube
The serial number is 04106 (not really clear either o or 0 or C)
The groupset is Shimano 600 tricolor 7 speed

Hi, I'm just reading forums on Tommasini bikes as I found one on the side of the road. median strip behaviors in Australia!

This farme has the coin fork emblem, no FD tab and the cable routing under the BB. it is kitted out with Campy Mirage 9 speed. All black.

also has 3 x brake cable guides brazed on TT

I have just unpacked a Tommasini frame with a Stencil, not “Thomas” but “Ballini” a bike shop in Livorno.

I really appreciate you compiling this information.

The same individual who sold me my 1973 Derosa also has a 1975 Tommasini.

The seat-stay spears are concave and pointed, like early Colnago. (Not Pela like)

The fork has the dash dot dash that tells me Pela.

most important, the bottom bracket has the butterfly shape cut out that screams “Pela”

I’ve heard that Pella built the early Tommasini well teaching Iro.

So I wonder if this bike was built by Pella or simply used parts lying around.

were Pela bottom bracket shells ever use in non-Pella bikes?
