My Crappy Lunch Ride

Well, we might not be getting much snow hereabouts this winter, but there are other benefits.

You have my sympathy, here in Minnesota it warmed up to 20 degrees today and maybe 30+ degrees Friday or Saturday.

Pretty nice area in your video, I'd love to ride it some day.

Thanks a lot, Vic, I'm at work, trying to put together in my foggy, minuscule brain, what kit to wear in the rain and cold today, so I can get in a ride this afternoon, and you go and post vid about your area's weather. Gerry has a supporter in putting a winter month's banning for you now....

I notice your shadow shows a helmet cam and a "Take-A-Look" style glasses mounted mirror. That could be one of my bike videos except for the palm trees, ocean, lush greenery and warm weather (humor). That is gorgeous, thanks for sharing!

Thanks! What a beautiful day yesterday ... and that little lunch loop is really sweet. There is even a little restaurant along the way ... the Yellow Vase ... where you can dine alfresco in a courtyard. I can almost convince myself I'm in Italy.

The crazy thing here is that while you guys are jonesing for warm clear weather, I'm jonseing for more of this.

We're headed up skiing this weekend, and I would dearly love to have it storm like crazy the entire time. No such luck.

Nice ride OP. Makes me want to move to SoCal.

Speaking of, what's a good small town SoCal place for cyclists?

I think the very best places are actually on the Central Coast. For example, San Luis Obispo is a way cool place to live, with great weather, great cycling, a great little downtown, great university, and a small town atmosphere. It regularly makes "Happiest Place" lists, and for good reasons. On the downside, it's not super expensive to live there, but it ain't cheap either.

There are others further south. Santa Maria's nice, as is Ojai and Santa Barbara (>$). It's really hard to do better than the combination of good weather and good cycling in and around those areas.

That would have to be Astroturf if it's mid-January?

What's that yellow thing in the sky and why is the dead grass green? How come your breath isn't freezing?

It is a rather surreal video. I have to assume that S. California is below the equator and it's summer there now. Otherwise, as we all know, the ground would be covered in white stuff and the trees would have no leaves.

Another crappy lunch ride. This time, I tried to time the transitions a little better, and give y'all a look at some other favorite spots. The Yellow Vase for lunch and the Gazebo view of the bay.

Really it's a bit of an excuse to highlight a favorite song of mine ... Wild Theme.

Coulda stayed out all day.
