For snacking during the day and during the times when I'm riding the fire/logging/mining roads of Northern Ontario Canada I like to carry nuts, cashews and other dried fruit in small zip-lock bags in a handlebar bag. i recently discovered the slide seal bags that are eaier to open and c losethan the zip-lock type of bags.
Because my tours are around two weeks average and are totally self-supported I prefer to use light weight food from the supermarket. I'll buy noodles, instant potato mix and similar stuff and then supplement that with freeze dried meat or dried meat. I really miss the Magic Pantry entrees of yore.
One thing to watch out for though is a sudden change in diet from normal at home food to tour specific food can lead to loose movements of the bowels.
Cheers

Breakfast: Coffee, porridge & juice
Lunch: Tortillas & peanut butter, fruit.
Dinner: Beans & rice with olive oil
Extra: Trailmix
It’s heavy, boring, cheap and vegan, so not for everyone, but I can live on it forever.

Four year old thread resurrected.
In the future you may want to start a new thread when the thread is quite old, especially when there is a new topic.

Oh I will be fixing. I have no desire to eat my dog. He does go everywhere with me.
whippets can take road work better than other breeds for many reasons. He'll love it, once he is trained.

I eat a lot of Dinty Moore beef stew, instant oatmeal and peanut butter and honey sandwiches (decent jam only comes in glass jars which I do not want to haul), supplemented with gas station trail mix and pop tarts. Most of my touring has been done in the desert of the western US where grocery stores can be a week apart. So I buy things that can survive desert heat for a few days (no cheese, eggs or vegetables)
