What comes after 14 days of rain?

Monday

Last weeks forecast was rain nearly every day, this weeks forecast, about the same, but with even more humidity, today we had 32C and it felt like 40C. How the heck do others keep their riding up, when the weather doesn't co-operate? Don't mention the trainer, I get enough of it from October to April....

Well, I keep my eye on the weather radar and can usually find a more or less dry interval for a short to medium length ride. Sometimes storms just pop up and I get wet. Sometimes I just say the heck with it and start out in the rain. Once you get soaking wet you can't get any wetter! My only problem with riding in the rain is that sometimes it can get cold. I have a rain jacket which doesn't keep me dry but does help with the cold. You'd probably have to have a really good downhill for cold to be a problem at 40C!

What comes after 14 days of rain?

1. Remove blade from lawn mower.
2. Sharpen blade or have it sharpened.
3. Install blade on mower.
4. Start mower.
5. You know the rest............

Embrace the wet.
Rain, like hills, make you hard as nails.

I heard that once it rained for 40 days and 40 nights straight but I'm not old enough to remember that personally.

If it was in Texas, the next thing after 14 days of rain would be Hummingbird size mosquitoes.

Around here after fourteen days of rain one can expect...another day of rain. Just kidding. We have to keep up the myth that it rains in Oregon, otherwise it would get too crowded.

After fourteen days of rain, I recommend a good drive train clean-up. It doesn't have to be clear and sunny to enjoy a bike ride.

Well, more recently it was not every day AND night, but I did have 40 days when it rained each day keeping the roads wet for commuting.

You have to tough it out. I have more waterproof top coats than Long sleeve jerseys.

Look to the forecast and look for the "Dry" spells. Disregard them as they are probably wrong.

Just go and buy the Goretex.

Ride. Rain or not. If you are worried about your nice bikes build a crappy one you are happy to ride in the rain.

Way back when, I think it was in the 60's, I commuted to work by bike. My rain bike was an English 3-speed because it had fenders. Unfortunately, it also had steel rims so, in the rain, it didn't have any brakes.

Happily aluminum rims and cool stop pads work great in the rain.

I've got seven bikes in rotation right now. Three of them have fenders.

It's pretty simple, you get on your bike and begin pedaling. That happened in Santa Barbara when I was a student, never saw the sun for two solid weeks with rain most of the day. I'd just put on the poncho and go. I got sick of it, sure, but I rode. These days, you can use the weather radar to help you out a bit. I like weather.gov.

Well, you could build an ark.

Some of us tired of the cold and rain and moved to the desert years ago. By the way, we could use some. It has been weeks since we had even a hint of rain. I rode 20 miles early this morning and spotted a group of at least 20 riders all dressed out in the finest spandex. No Gortex in sight.

Update, checked the radar this morning, all clear, looked out, all clear with the sun shining. Wife asks me to do a bunch of stu... "forget it honey, I'm going riding..." Her reply, "Go now, before the humidity kicks in".

So I grab my gear and water bottles, go out to the bikes, check the road bike, computer is dead, it needs a new battery, grab the mountain bike. Riding along the MUP, and it has a ramp over the curb, at this point there are no roads or driveways for about 15m on either side. A city parks truck is parked on the side of the road, with all that space on either side where do you think idiot parks his truck. Yup, right in front of the ramp, so I need to go over the curb, and the magnet for the computer falls off. Fortunately I heard it go, and was able to retrieve it. Of course it doesn't want to go back on, and I end up with no record of the ride after all.... I didn't have my camera with me, or I would have taken a picture of the truck......
