1982 Raleigh CANADA 10th Anniversary gold bike. Info?
Does anybody have any info on this oddball?
It is reportedly a non-production bike built in the Waterloo, Quebec factory to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Raleigh Canada. A few sources have backed that claim up. But I can't for the life of me find a mention of it anywhere in the internet.... and if its not on the internet then it cant be true right?
The Gold Chromovelato paint is in great shape.
The 600 arabesque groupset is in great shape.
The bike appears to have been ridden very little and not messed with at all. A time capsule, but of what exactly? What is this curious bike?

I really don't have anything to add, except that it's a durn cool bike. I like that they went fancy with the gold and a decent group, but stuck to their roots with the 20-30 hi-ten frame, stamped dropouts, rat trap rear rack, etc.
Certainly doesn't resemble any of the other gold Raleigh special edition bikes, and the 'Waterloo - 1982' license plate in French seems to fit the narrative. As does the fact that what it does rather resemble a gussied-up and functionally upgraded version of my dad's old Canadian-made Raleigh commuter!
Hopefully someone can chime in with some info on this thing!

It certainly is very similar in some details to my 1983 Canadian Sprite Mixte. The fender style and shape, the reflectors and details are for sure Canadian. What does seem somewhat different than my 80 Record or 83 Sprite is the intricate lug detail and the wrapped seatstays. The 20/30 HiTen decal is identical.
Before Raleigh Canada closed up shop, I enquired about promotional info for 80's Raleighs and they claimed they had none. Seemed they just couldnt be bothered finding it.

Looks legit as described 10th Aniversery Canadian built gold edition of a Raligh Grand Prix from 1981 or maybe 1982 with full 600 Arabesque. One pretty and fairly unigue bike as only a few hundred where made and sold only to select dealers in Canada and the Northern US so it is very likely there is little info for this bike online. I have never seen one in person but based on the one similar framed 20-30 with nice components I have built up it is likely surprisingly great rider.

I think they do this to make sure that cyclist of more modest means than rich collectors (who would tend to buy anniversary bikes to collect or for speculation) to be able to celebrate their anniversaries with the company by purchasing the affordable bikes, and IMO, that was a good thing.....

Not really unusual,.....Peugeot celebrated their 100th anniversary, no less, with a bike made from quite humble, abeit squashed (aero profile), Carbolite 103 "house" tubing......

they could have gone with forged drop outs. hi-ten/house gas pipe isn't that much of an issue for me as non-forged drop outs !... the peugeot 100th has them at least !

Perhaps the Waterloo factory was only set up to manufacture the low and mid level bikes?
Suposedly they made very few and only top Raleigh dealers had the opportunity to buy one.

Actually, the Peugeot centenary bike's frame does not have forged dropouts. They are stamped/pressed items, same as used on some of their their other Carbolite frames of the time as on the PH10S,......but they did punch windows out on the rear ones to make them look like forged dropouts.....

I might not be hitting the right combinations, but tried what I thought would have the best odds of eliciting a hit.
