My wife and I are registered and hoping for good weather. Of course I expect an ce storm and high winds! I will be riding a 1985 Trek 600 unless I get the 1984 Trek 620 rolling by then.

My wife and I signed up about a week ago. If the weather is bad, we’ll just consider it a donation, I guess. I like to ride, but not in the rain. It will be a first for both of us.

It was a good ride! Although I will say that I wish that riders would do a bit better at keeping to the right. I witnessed one near miss by a truck ant two other honking drive by a due to riders crowding the centerline.

We did the Metric. I was on my modern Fuji and my friends were on their modern red/white/blue Calfee tandem.

I’ve never seen such terrible road manners. Center line crowding, groups of people stopped in the traffic lane, weaving back and forth, etc I also couldn’t believe how bad many sections of the road were with potholes and patches and such.

That being said, the route was nice, the sag stations were well spaced out, the ride was challenging.

I saw the rider down (if this was the same incident) as i went by not long after it happened and before emergency services arrived. I think that was a bike on bike incident. Luckily there was more than one doctor in that group so they had it under control.

I was surprised to see so many clumps of riders in packs that took up the whole lane or in many cases just a pair of riders managing to take up the whole lane with little effort to make room for passing even when they knew people were in in fact passing.

I did a century two weeks ago up north of Traverse City and it had steeper hills, but I felt this ride was more challenging in some ways. In part because of the weather and in part because of long hills with headwinds!

I would agree and hope to go again next year. I don’t ride a lot of these organized rides, but I did get the impression on this one that many of the riders thought the roads were only for bicyclists on that day, and no vehicles. On other rides (again, not many for comparison), it seems that “passing on your left” or some type of alert is given when being passed. I rarely heard anything during this ride when being passed. I guess as long as a rider doesn’t deviate from a straight line, there won’t be any issues, but compared to the few other rides I’ve done, it was way less. The event is organized very well and we enjoyed the experience!
