It seems that of late, there has been an increase in the number of peds that are verbally hostile and have also had several apartment dwelling rejects curse me out for being on the road and in one case, toss crap at us while we were riding by.

These are usually younger people in their teens and early twenties and wonder what the hell is happening as it seems we have a generation of people who just have no decent respect for others.

This happens when I am riding on the road and it comes from the sidelines... the muppets tend to be better.

Yeah... get off my lawn.

Maybe I need more coffee and am looking forward to today's commute where I will have noting but wide open roads and buffalo... who are better mannered than many people.

I've had pedestrians yell at me to get on the sidewalk. Is that what they really want?

Mostly the things that tick me off are:

• Flats
• Squealing brakes
• Headwind
• Mornings

I've only been yelled at once in a year, but I get passed closely more often than I like. I'm thinking about getting a collapsible 24" police baton to 1. fend off dogs and 2. give people a visual/physical indicator of what "give 3' of passing room" looks like. Might come in handy with a raving cager who wants to dig through my panniers for identification, too.

Totally agree with the squealing brakes, mine have been horrendous as of late!

Also:
*salmon biking towards you the opposite way in the bike lane
*bikers that weave all over the road, in and out of car paths
*GET OFF MY LAWN!

I got told off by an old lady for riding on the sidewalk yesterday. In my defence, I was on the grass beside the sidewalk (not blocking her path in any way) letting my dog pee.

Double parked cars drive me absolutely batty...it's so incredibly dangerous because I'm forced into the on coming lane and often have a difficult time seeing around the double parked car. It also drives me nuts when people park cars in the bike lane...I actually had a passenger in an illegally parked bike lane car yell at me for riding in the non-bike lane to get around the car. Headphone wearing joggers on the MUP drive me nuts...especially when jogging with other people and the group spreads across the entire lane and doesn't listen when asked to pass.

I'm really not able to think of any little things that upset me while riding my bike, I suppose I've stopped worrying about them, and I now just concentrate on bigger items that will cause me the most grief, close passes, right/left hooks, pull outs, etc.

Salmon riders drive me insane, I just can't stand it. Another thing that bothers me is to see roadies who take a whole lane and slow the traffic when there is a perfectly good paved shoulder or a bike lane at the side of the road. No wonder a lot of drivers hate us.

Another cyclist offer this helpful advice to me yesterday - "you're gonna get killed!" I was in the right lane riding with traffic as he was salmoning up the sidewalk.

I agree with squealing brakes. Cars honking at me when the entire road is empty and therefore very easy to go around me, but they just can't stand seeing a cyclist on the road.

People just think they can walk anywhere any time. I stopped riding in those new NYC bike lanes because of f***g pedestrians swarming in bike lanes. I'd need a scuba diving air tank to get enough honks out of my AirZound.

I have not been yelled at like that, or had stuff thrown at me in years. I get laughed at, occasionally. Especially if I'm near downtown after dark (lots of bars down there).

Things that DO drive me nuts?

Teenagers that wear dark clothes (bike ninjas) and bunny-hop off the sidewalk while doing tricks onto the road, and in front of you and cars on the road.

People that come down to Colorado from Wyoming, and treat the bike lane like their own personal "go slower than everybody else that has an engine" lane of happiness (not sure if I can turn into this McDonalds without flipping the whole damn car over...must come to complete stop...OH the G-FORCES!).

Mean out-of-state truckers that try to run you off the road (while staring at you in the rear-view mirror).

Cars that don't quite pass you, and then J-hook you into the curb or off-the-road.

People that flash their bright-lights at me, when I have my bike lights on (I hit them with my 200+ lumen brights then...).

The little stuff that ticks you off...
Cyclist with multiple rear lghts and all of them have dead batteries. For gawd sake, please at least replace the battery on one light.
