Cycling COMMUTE METAL earned - 2010
#76
born again cyclist
i won't make it to the 168 day mark (i'm only at day 76 for the year because i ride the train during winter), but because i go 30 miles per commute when i do ride, i'm already well over the 1,700 mile threshold, so i guess that means i've already earned platinum status.

I hit platinum in 2008, but 2010 is bad. I had a little health problem which has been resolved.
Since I don't ride so far (6.3 miles) but I have done so at -20F, I want some credit for that which would put me at a station somewhat equal to those who ride far, or a lot. I wonder if it is possible to make some obscure mathematical formula involving number of days, round-trip distance, high-low-average temperatures, and maybe age, that would put people into the medal categories. That way, an old guy who goes a short distance in the winter would be equivalent in status to one who goes a long distance but puts the bike away in the fall.

It would be great if we could. But my understanding is you can only vote once on a poll. Perhaps next year I'll start a separate thread for each metal. I agree it would be much nicer to be able to say this is where I am this year. Good idea. Thanks.

Just as soon as your check clears.
Plat is $1600/ oz. 3 oz medal. Typical retailer markup for custom design, manufacture, etc.
Our wonderful governor passed a change so internet purchased are now taxed. Thus $14,400 plus tax of $1,440 bought your total to only $25,842. Naturally shipping and handling in this case will be no charge.
{This may be a one time offer, as production costs could be higher than anticipated because of this metal type.}

Disappointing end of year. Missed gold by 3 rides because of unplanned elective surgery for wife. But on the up side end with about 20 more rides than last year

FYI- I will *** NOT *** be carrying this idea forward. If you like the idea, someone else will have to own it and drive it. My commuting days will end in 2011 so it doesn't make sense to even start a thread I can't participate in.
Because of the limitations of the forums, I'ld suggest using a separate post for each metal, that way you can vote more than once and generate interest for each metal.
Good luck and have fun riding.

I just logged 3000 miles and some change and well over 200 days ridden for the year.
My early year wreck with a possum on a slick corner into a guardrail cost me 2 months of commuter miles and a whole lot of pain.
Still a good commuter season, shooting for 4000 miles and 300 days for 2011.

This year I managed to commute 61 days. My commute is pretty lengthy, 44 to 50 mile roundtrip depending on the route. That puts my commuting mileage right around 3,000 miles, platinum level.
2010 has been a very good year. Early in the year I was riding my bike to the train station in town (4.5 miles away) and then loading up for a train trip for the rest of the commute to work. Then in June I started cycling the whole way in a couple of times a week, that's the 44 to 50 mile roundtrip ride. In October I cycled in to work every day.
Looking forward to a great 2011!!!

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
Guessing 2 months of not commuting (travel, etc) and 5 days per week; or 40 weeks of weekday commutes. 200 days by bike or a little less.
Mileage was SHORT, though -- I live less than two miles from work.

Easy platinum this year.
However I've had a bad case of LA syndrome (lazy arse) the last 4 weeks.
Never buy a car. You will then find many reasons not to ride.

Not safe for work
I voted for Platinum for number of days I rode (nearly 200) and Silver for number of miles (barely 1200 miles since my commute is pretty short).
Yay us!!

are we starting a new poll? this was last years poll. won't pemit me to 'vote' again.
hit 193 days of riding but I did take July off due to smog related breathing issues. gak. hak.
16 days riding / month and 28 rides / month average. not bad. my ride is 11 miles into work and 11 miles back. hoping to do better this year.
