Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, I got out for a quick ride today. Stiff and steady winds. Had to put it in the Granny Ring when I had headwinds - that's always fun.

When we received the news, my initial thought was that my wife would be going to VA while I stayed back with the kids.

The boy was adamant even though I told him that it would be hard to witness and that his grandpa would be in even rougher shape than only a couple weeks earlier. Poor kid has had a crash course with death lately, losing three pets over two years, and now his grandpa.

Then the wife pipes up and says that she'd really like me to come, too, because it would be a trying time for her. So yeah, since I couldn't leave the three year old behind, that made all of us.
I got essentially that crash course in my late 20s and early 30s. It may be better for him to go through it younger, or not, but when I showed ROTJ to AG for the first time (seriously) a few weeks ago, the one Ewok poking its dead friend hit me harder than ever before. We don't get to choose when we lose family members, but I can't imagine that being there is the wrong thing.

My grandmother (my one remaining grandparent...) is currently in ortho rehab from breaking her femur so bad last week that her xray looks like scaffolding. She'll be ok though, at least.

Get some aero chainrings and R8000 pedals, that'll fix that right up.

Good deal. I don't expect too much real pain, but you're right, tomorrow will likely be the proof in the pudding.

How are those Rotor chainrings? I saw your mention in the other thread. I'm eventually going to need something on my P2M, and since the cranks are Rotors... Anyway, the NoQ have a nice, classic 5-arm look. Not sure I'd want the aero.

If not those, I'd probably pick up some Praxis.

He's 8, but a fairly mature 8. Well, most of the time.

I think with your quality parenting, all should go well. We've had a rough time of it ourselves in the recent past. My girl will be turning 8 soon, but it's been hard on her. All the best to you and your family in this hard time.

Oh, they're fine. I don't know that I can tell the difference between them and the R8000 chainrings on the roadie. They may not save a watt, but they look the business on a TT bike. The aero ones are supposed to be extra-stiff, too, for however much that's worth.

I don't really trust the front shifting on either bike, but that's mostly about not trusting any of my mechanics. I think I've had one guy properly tune a bike in my riding career.

fun question of the day, how do you keep your sun glasses from fogging you when wearing a face mask? They fogged up every time I looked over my shoulder for cars which defeated the purpose of looking over my shoulder for cars.

And Whyfi if you brought a bike and want to ride at all let me know. I’ll be out of town til thursday though.

Well, I'll need that for when I engage the sprinting guads.

Well yeah, but... I've never seen proof. They say "stiff enough for Di2!", whatever that means. What's the stiffness requirement for Di2? The shop manager told me the aero ones are stiffer too. How's he know? Nothing's published. It's tempting to assume that solid rings are stronger, but that's not obviously true (and alloys make a ton of difference). So who knows?

But they look awesome, so yeah, I went with them.

Face mask? It was like mid-30s this morning. Southerners.

I use one of these, if you get one it will quickly become a favorite - https://www.icebreaker.com/en-us/wom...te/100962.html

Glasses will still fog up if it's really cold and you have it pulled up over your nostrils... just don't pull it up over your nostrils. Most of the time I just wear it on my neck - it helps a lot. If it's cold, I'll cover my mouth. If it's really cold I'll stay inside.

I made a Zwift “meetup” group ride for tomorrow since we are expecting snow and roads will be unsafe. I posted at an easy Z2 (for me) 2.0 W/Kg. So far only 3 riders are coming. One of my friends is a more serious cyclist and said my ride will be too slow, so he posted one for 2.5-3.0 W/Kg.

I can live without it. I think I went to Applebee’s once about 10 years ago and no urge to return.
