Your Best Clocked Time on a Clyde Century
Solo, group, flat and /or group ride? Just getting an idea of what you other Clydes do!
Mine would be 5:45 flat solo (6:05 total) Unsupported solo ride
7:10 climbing 10,000ft (7:40 total) Ride Around the Bear
3:10 on a metric century 62 miles, 30% of the ride with one other dude. Casa Grande Metric Arizona
Never done a group century ride. Started out but always ends up falling apart.

I really need to find some riding partners to push me along. I don't think I could do it in the 5:15 hours you guys are doing them in.

Tour de Cure 2008.... ended up riding 110 miles in 7:50 with 30 and 40 MPH Kansas head winds. Last 50 miles we're unsupported due to the sag stops running out of bottled water and fruit.
I survived on Hammer gel and what little water I had left in my camelback. It was the most brutal ride ever but yet I walked away feeling that i could accomplish anything.
25 riders started the century and only 13 of us finished, the winds we're unforgiving. They even had part of the route( around 5 miles) on a 65 MPH 2 lane highway with no signs or sag vehicles to let motorist know what was going on, the motorist must have thought we we're crazy.

About 6.5 hours rolling time on my first century last year, but due to multiple flats and having to go find a bike shop it was about 10 hours of actual time.

If you can find a good group to ride with that will ride at a pace you can keep up with you will be amazed at how much faster you can ride. The last 30 miles felt no harder than the first yesterday, it was like a big machine just cruising down the road. I felt like I was barely pedaling, I look down and we are cruising at 22mph.

I've done two centuries. Time on one was 9.5 hours, included 7.5 hours ride time. Time on the other was about 11 hours, not sure where all of that went, still about 7.5 hours riding. Those were flattish centuries, 1500-1800' or so. The first one was the Hotter-n-Hell 100 in Wichita Falls. That's a terrible time for it, but I still had lots of company out there, too.

Fastest for me was 6:02 riding time in last year's RABA event near Richmond. Most of that I rode alone except for about a 20-mile section I rode with a medium-fast group. That was a relatively flat route too. The best I've ever done solo was 6:15, also on a flat route. I slow waayyyy down if there are any amount of hills involved.

I managed a 6h 01m century split (rolling time) on the TdC last year. About 6000' of climbing. I rolled across the finish line with 108 miles and another 30min on the clock.
Back in my tri-racer days I ripped out a 5h 10m total time at the Hancock Horizontal Hundred.
Now, I'm not in it so much for speed. Yeah, I'm looking to improve on this weekend's sub-14mph average, but I don't need to be busting my butt at 22mph the whole way.

Wow, you guys have some great ridetimes!...We did set out once to do a 5 hr century. Some bigtime double century rider commented on our flat trail. Said his training ground was all hills and wind. So he wanted to come down and do a flat sissy 5 hr century. After 50 miles he was dog tired.
He took a pull at mile 60 but couldn't seem to manage 15 mph!...He managed to uspet one of my ride partners with comments about his bike so he whizzed off!..... I held back and tried to wait fro the guy but he was struggling bigtime. My bud waited at the end for nearly an hour by the time we arrived...That's the stroy of my five hour century!

My last full century last year took 5h55m solo. Best time on a group was 4h30m. The group one was fairly flat which can actually hinder top overall speed as there was hardly any downhill speed involved. Someday I would love to do a mountain century just to see what it's like.

clocked time
I'm in just over 7.
At 66,I'm happy with that.
(regardless of the day or the direction the wind was supposed to be coming from, it never fails the last 30-40 miles are into a headwind)

I've only done one metric century in my current body (times from college years no longer count due to 20+ year shelf life).
Chip/Elapsed time 3:22:33 (18.66 mph average) -- 19.2 mph rolling average (stop lights).

Tucson 2007--4:59 total time. 109 miles. Maybe 15 mins of walk/running. Awesome experience that I want to repeat.
2008--5:10 total time. Prolly 15 mins walk/run & flat repair. I was disappointed so now I'm thinking about 2009.

I haven't paid too much attention to my times. I do know this when I did the GT Highland Triple Century I had a bike time of 18.5 hrs. or 6:10 for each century and an overall time of 21 hrs. for 7 hrs. for each century. There was about 13,000' of climbing for the day.

Didn't you do The Bear or BreathlessAgony, one or the other? How was that? Did you think a climbing century was tougher than doing a sub 5 century? How do they compare?

Climbing was definitely harder for me. Breathless--hardest of the lot--caused me to question cycling and almost give up in despair (I've never SAG'ed in) except I never saw any on-course SAG vehicles. The pain went to my core (heart & lungs) because of the altitude--last 15 miles of climbing was over 5,000 ft altitude or something.
I never questioned myself at Tucson: it's pain was muscular, not cardiovascular. (Mulholland Challenge was also muscular pain. Heartbreak was just friggin' cold the last 10-miles!) That said, the sub-5 was plenty painful. And last year when I finished, I couldn't walk straight and utilized the services of a masseuse post-ride. I could've used that at Mulholland as I could barely move there, too.

Pretty consistent 6.5 hours of rolling time on a flat, paved bike trail riding solo.
Slightly under 6 hrs on the same trail in group rides.

Tour de Cure at the Indianapolis Speedway 2008.
Riding time 5h07min for 101 miles. I'd say about 40% done in a paceline.

El Tour de Tucson, 2007 - 7 hours 20 minutes for 109 miles (6 hours 9 minutes riding time - I had some cramping and had to stop and stretch frequently, accounting for much of the more than 1 hour off the bike) - about as flat as centuries get.
Death Ride, 2008 - 14 hours 12 minutes total time, 125 miles and 15,000 + feet of climbing. This included almost 1 hour stopped waiting for a thunder/hail storm to pass. My computer shorted out in the rain, so I don't really know what my riding time was.
Crater Lake Century, 2008 - 7 hours 42 minutes total time, 6 hrs. 50 minutes riding time. 100 miles, 8600 feet of climbing.
Lighthouse Century, 2008 - 7 hours 45 minutes total time, 7 hours 3 minutes riding time. Not a good day at all. I spent most of it trying to ride with some fast folks from the NorCal subforum, and faded badly in the 2nd half. We did the hilly option, but that still only gives 3,000 feet of climbing.
Tour of the Unknown Coast, 2008 - 7 hours 22 minutes total time, 6 hours 45 minutes riding time. This was a good day on a long, hard ride. 100 miles, 10,000 feet of climbing.
Grizzly Century, 2007 - 8 hours 22 minutes for 100 miles, 10,000 feet of climbing. Riding time was 7 hours 37 minutes. Coooold - there was already snow on the ground (1st week of October!) for part of the course, and they had to change the course to avoid an icy descent.
Tour of Napa Valley, 2007 - 8 hours 10 minutes total time, 7 hours 12 minutes riding time. My first organized century!

Not sure why but the final climb up to the 8k mark was the easiest. Maybe it had something to do with the P&B sandwiches at the reststop!
