Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I feel your pain. Happened to me again yesterday morning as I was leaving the house. Woman was walking down the sidewalk in my direction. Noticed the issue when I put my keys in my pocket. Turned to face the door and zipped up.

I always wanted the sonic blaster which by the way actually worked. A friend of mine got one and we would build elaborate card houses and knock them down with the sonic waves.

Mattel came out with a better one than the one sold in comic books but the cheap-o one did work.

I was disappointed that the Sea Monkeys didn't look like the little cartoony images used to sell the damn things.

My cousin had the Mattel one and I can remember it clearly. It had a lever on top which cocked the gun by pulling back the rubber diaphragm and it fired through a cone, which must have been optimized to produce a low frequency wave. We could blow the ash off the end of his dad’s cigarette from across the room and make the dogs run away.

I got the X Ray Specs. They worked, in a way. They used split image diffraction to make the margins (about 1-2 degrees of angle) of any solid object look less dense. So looking at your own hand/fingers you could see a less dense outline and what could pass as bones inside. Ditto looking at a person you could imagine that the less dense outline of her body would be her clothes and the denser image would be her body.

It was interesting, for about 3 minutes.
