There is a good bit that Freakonomics does on cheating (its on youtube Im sure, but the full movie/book is worth it). They look at teachers who get bonuses based on the grades their kids gets, and the sumo wrestling industry in Japan.

Basically the conclusion they came to, is if there is incentive to cheat, and something to be gained by doing so, SOMEONE will be cheating, regardless of the punishment for getting caught.

But the harder it is to cheat, and the stricter the punishment, it at least will be less. As much as I wanted to see RUS banned, I would feel for the people who had no control over others and were clean (both of them lol). But if thats what it takes.

Interesting, and I just referred to this in the other Olympic thread. It seems they might be cutting their losses and just letting Hindes ride the old bike. Maybe that max effort he puts out on the typically smaller gear for a man 1 is just too much for the bike???

Never doubted the TP, already buried the TS long time ago. Womens Omnium should be a done deal for Laura.

Not for this Olympics but perhaps for one in the future, yesterday at the GB national junior champs in Derby the sprint title was decided in the under-16 male category as Lyme RC’s Caleb Hill won, setting a new British record in the flying 200m of 10.951 on his way to the title.

Wow. That's amazing.

The key now is to keep his head on straight and hope he stays interested in the sport

I thought that was an "interesting" choice as well. Any idea why/how he made the road team?

The rules allows them to use a member of the road team on the track so he'll probably start the race, drop out at the first hill and then pack his bags and go to the velodrome to be used as a spare man for the team sprint, etc. Just means they've got one less for the road team but they don't really stand any chance of winning a medal in that anyway.

Interesting article in todays paper about some new skinsuits they're wearing, says it's taken 3 seconds of their times and they've broken the world record 3 times in training, as have the women's team pursuit.

Maybe it's similar to LZR swimsuit.

If you google the name of an Olympic Athlete, it will take you to a special Google function that shows you the schedule of their events, and other competitors. this is AWESOME.

Canadian here, using cbc.ca/olympics. A very good site which streams many of the sports on the "broadcast" channels for those wanting to view events live or view events which their national broadcasters might not show. Does require VPN for non-Canadians though.

And then the US women went out and had over a second on them by the 125m mark, talk about a fast start. They almost held it too. When you have a 5s lead on 3rd place maybe they pulled back on purpose? Coach could easily slow them down 1/10th a lap and save them the effort.

I think its clear based on times it will be UKvsUS and AUSvsCAN, but its so close it could go either way in each race.
