Most 26” wheels I’m finding lately are disc or rim, with asymmetric hubs, which I don’t want for my ‘96 Killer V rebuild. I want 100% rim brake only. It’s getting harder without having to resort to custom built...

Plenty of suggestions the best one being White Industries hubs and Velocity Dyad Rims with your choice of spokes me personally I would go Sapim but DT Swiss, Phil Wood and Wheelsmith are all fine options. If you are looking just for cheap the Velocity mountain standard rim brake wheel set is a good choice as it is at least still handbuilt.

Supposedly you CAN make a 7 speed freehub work but I'd rather avoid the hassle.
If you want I can connect you with some folks I follow on Instagram that have done a ton of these conversions. LMK!
