Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Parlee update - you decide which you like better:

...ditched all the blue accents and the dark black felt bar tape...switched to gumwalls....flattened the transition to the hoods....

or previous version...blue accents and regular black tires...overall weight is the same (6.38 kg)

Starting to like the look of the tan sidewalls. Gives the bike a sort of a Euro classics look to it...like the red CAAD10.

1000000000000x better, but I absolutely hate gumwalls. Although, while I like the blue accents, I think it'd be even hotter pure stealth black.

What about blue accents with gumwalls? Am I going a bit too crazy with that?

I say hot! I love seeing something pretty and colourful in this sea of blandness that bike design seems to have gotten into recently. It's so silly how they over react to the complaints about loud logos and swing to the other extreme.

I made a few changes to my Neilpryde Bura sl. Ritchey handlebars are replaced by zipp sl carbon (I needed a bit more reach and these are 27g lighter - bonus).

Also ditched traditional handlebar tape and started using 3M friction tape, available at home depot for $3 a roll. Love this stuff - leaves no residue when you take it off and it's about 22g to do both sides (takes 2 rolls, but at $3 each, who cares and you'll have leftover). You don't need extra tape to hold down cables being routed underneath either.

Went from kcnc cb1's to eebrakes. A bit heavier, but I'll take it. Also switched to powercordz for brakes and derailleurs.

The wheels on there now are farsport 38mm clinchers built up w/ cx-rays & extralite hubs. 1174g for clinchers. These are about 200g heavier than my tubular set, more when you include the tire setup.

Other than that things are the same. The bike weighs about 11.9 lbs as pictured (INCLUDING my garmin 800 that I forgot to put on before taking the pic. With the tubulars on it comes in around 11.3 lbs.

Since I got the bike I've dropped 8-10 lbs off my body, let's just say I'm really enjoying climbing right now.

Either way the bike is hot, but I will never be a fan of retro yuck sidewalls.
