Just do it

Just get a bike that isn't from Target or similar, a bike shop with someone to guide you in your selection. And ride. You'll figure out the rest.

REI sells some Cannondale bikes and at least one Salsa model. Fuji too, IIRC.

Am I sacrificing anything, for instance, by getting say a Giant Revolt Advanced over an Orbea Terra or those other flashier brands with more history?

As usual, thanks in advance for any input!
The Treks in general are a me too! bike. Lackluster imo. In fact, any bike sourced out of the orient came from one of 4 or 5 manufacturers. So that Trek just might be a Giant. My road bikes are Italian...But my mountain and gravel stuff is Giant all the way. You will not be disspointed in the Revolt.

REI sell a few different brands, but also their own Co-Op brand. Co-Op replaced Novara a couple years ago, and some of their mtb/gravel/touring bikes look pretty modern and up-to-date, where before a Novara road bike always looked a bit 2nd rate next to a Cannondale.

It’s not clear from a quick google where Co-op bikes are built, but it would be a big surprise if it wasn’t China/Taiwan. They’re reasonably priced, but I don’t think they’re any more of a bargain than Giant.

I think the best deals at REI come when their last-season name-brand stuff gets marked down once the new year’s bikes come in.

Regarding whether or not Giant makes some models or all models of Trek carbon frames: Anyone here have an authoritative up to date, (current/recent date) source that confirms that as well as also naming what Trek model frames?

Giant bikes.

Its called Giant because it was (and maybe still is) the biggest bicycle maker in China. In 1980s I bought a Giant MTB mail order bike. Put drop handlebars on it and road it 5,000 miles cross country with zero problems. I don't remember the components brand name. But had no problems. For more info I suggest going to: Evelo blog and their "Top Ten Bicycle websites".

Never owned a Giant but a buddy rode up one day on his. I noticed the big fat head and down tubes. Perfect for a big rider like me.
