I don't know. This reminds me a bit of something I saw in Munich. St. Michael's Church was under renovation, and while it was they put up a facade showing what it was supposed to look like.

They should do that with the Midway.

@Andy_K

I'm saying that's kind of what I think they did, but it doesn't appear to be a facade.

Got an email reply from DD, he confirms that for stripping and repainting they wrap for environmental reasons. You don't want to chip all that lead based paint and have it drop into the harbor.

Glad we/you can still enlist Jeff.

I agree on that but this isn't that, the superstructure may be wrapped but its built up and structured far more than it used to be.

And plz tell him I said Hi and did he station himself in AZ full time now?

There's scaffolding under the wrap.

Andy_K It's incredible why it's indescribably beautiful...it reminds of the fourth of July. Seriously that is a very very cool building.

It’s an expensive hotel and tourist trap. If you want to see more of it, go see “The Stunt Man”:

The Hotel Del’ was weary in 1981. It sold later and was to be rehabilitated. Maybe not successfully?
I like Coronado but Have not been there in Decades.
I stayed at The Valencia in La Jolla, that was nice at the time.

https://hoteldel.com

Wife and I stayed there many years ago, probably before we were even married (shhh, don’t tell the preacher!) and it is much fancier looking now. It was nice but a little threadbare 30 years ago.

BG, I’m surprised you don’t recognize The Del Coronado- It’s where ‘Some Like It Hot’ was filmed.

Honestly: rooms are overpriced and not so schmancy (we usually stay at the Glorietta Bay across the street), but the newer condo stuff is nicely upscale.
The beach, which is free, is lovely.

been a few different owners over the years but a recent, bigg renovation a few years ago to the restaurants and elsewhere. property also removes all the kelp/seaweed
from the beach in front of the hotel. amazing how the kelp/seaweed just migrates to either side of the property...
