Rescued 1983 Fuji Touring Series IV from a pawn shop yesterday!

Hi all, I went garage sale hunting yesterday, but no luck, so I put plan B into action which is to hit all of the thrift stores, swap meets, and pawn shops that I can before heading home with my tail between my legs when I don't score anything! As I was heading to a miniature swap meet, I saw the handlebars outside of the pawn shop where they keep all of their bikes. I quickly did a U-turn, and with my best poker face casually walk up to it. I was thrilled that it was a high end Fuji Touring bike. I then spoke with the manager and negotiated the lowball price that was already on the price tag. The bike is in great condition with minor paint blemishes and a little bit of oxidation on the chrome. As always your opinions, thoughts and feedback are appreciated. Thank you!

P.S. Note the extra spoke holder on the left chainstay.

I thought first that it was a Brooks Imperial, but it looks like it does not have the expected big slot cut on its cover.
Could it be a Fujita "Belt"? saddle?

Color me jealous!

I've ramped down on my C&V buying. But, a vintage touring bike could likely pry open my wallet.

As a proud owner of a bike identical to that one, I congratulate you on your stellar good taste.

That one is amazingly original, right down to the reflectors and striping on the seat tube. Beneath the non-original chrome chainstay guard, there should be a decal that reads "18 SPEED". It would be cool if you could locate a set of NOS gum hoods for the brake levers. The rack looks like an original Blackburn (mine has one, too). What is the black thing around the down tube below the shift levers?

I had a similar thrill a few years back. They are lovely compliant tourers, somewhere between a stout touring bike like an early 80's Miyata 1000, and the more flexy Trek 720. The more road oriented wheels and tires are great if you don't head off paved roads on your tour. Mine is so clean I don't think the original owner rode it much. Mine's an 84 and the chainstay has a "valite" sticker on it, and the "original" seat on mine was a Fuji "duraflex" instead of a belt.

I've had two Fuji TS IVs, neither my size. Great touring bikes!

Whoa! Nice snag, Flash! You got the one with the spoke holder, the rack - the whole trip.
...Pawn shop find, huh? You did the impossible.

Thanks to all for your feedback, I appreciate it! The bike is actually a 56cm center to center. I took off the original saddle (in excellent condition), and put the Brooks B-15, as I think that it looks nicer. The "18 speed" decal is to the right of the chain guard, but the pedal is covering it. Auchen, this was a lucky pawn shop score! Several years ago I scored a Trek 620 from another pawn shop as well. See receipt below! :-) Lord_athlon, I appreciate the interest. I belong to a vintage Fuji road bike club, and one of my friends already expressed interest in the bike. His son is planning a tour in the summer, and he wants him to ride the Fuji. If the tour does not materialize, I will let him know of your interest. Additionally, if I find another I will definitely keep you in mind! :-) Thanks again to all, and all the best!

Very nice. Is it 18 speed as per post 9 or 21 speed as per receipt?

Thanks, it's 18 speeds. See decal to the left of the pedal. It has three chain rings in the front, and a six speed freewheel on back. The Pawn shops are for the most part clueless about bikes! let's keep it that way! :-)
