Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thank you for that bit of info.

My vision was Gumwalls, but after some research I came to realize that the only real gumwalls were as thin as tissue paper. The continental GP4000s tire has been great with flat protection and longevity has been just as good. My LBS just happened to 2 of these yellow sidewalls in the conti's left. It was a compromise on what I had planned. Still gives me a general idea on what I was visioning and the durability that I wouldn't fine in the Vitorria or veloflex.

Bianchi10, hot bike. Well done! And imo, those look better than gumwalls, but I'm not a huge fan of gumwalls, especially on that frame. Overall I'd definitely give that a hot. What wheels are those?

Thanks guys. Still my Enve classic 45 clinchers, just took off the logos. I'm having a bit of separation anxiety with my bike down at the shop already. Was adjusting my stem and when I went to tighten it back up, I snapped a head right off the bolt. Getting it fixed right now. It was an old bolt that my mechanic had been telling me I needed to be replacing soon. Guess I should have listened!

That is a pretty bike. Impressed with the build. Not sure about the yellow tires. More gumwallish would have been my choice. Love the Praxis and the King hubs. Is that a 7900 DA group?

Yes 7900. Hate the ergonomics of the 9000 hoods. love my 7900. As mentioned a couple times, the gumwall options quickly became not an option due to being so fragile. The yellow conti GP4000s with yellow sidewall gave me the look I wanted as well as the durability I need.

Yea, I bought a set of turbo cottons gumwall tires from specialized and they lasted 400 miles. Got a set of Contis now. Well sweet bike. Planning on racing anytime soon? Seems like a good race build.

Thanks. Absolutely will not race again. I raced a couple times about 4 years back and there were 3 crashes in 2 races. I have way too much invested into my bike than to have some yahoo who doesn't know how to keep his line crash into me. I raced bicycles (minimally) and raced motorcycles. In all racing, its just a matter of time till you go down. I ride to ride. I'm competitive within my own groups I ride in and simply have fun.

Interesting. Most people rave about the improvements of the 11-speed Shimano STI's over the last 10-speed (6700/7900) versions.

Yeah I don't know why. They just don't feel good to me. The shifting doesn't feel as good to me either. Maybe it's just because I'm accustomed to my 7900.

As it is, not. But it's close. I would change the chainrings, bar, stem, and your lever positioning.

The wheels and saddle are just SO different...not sure it'll 'look' right no matter what. (But looks aren't the most important thing; not at all.)

Yes, my wife (also into biking) is horrified by my having a modified B17 saddle on this bike. I like the juxtaposition and find it comfortable, despite the fact that my saddle weight nearly matches my front wheel weight..

I understand the chainring comment and the stem is clunky, but curious what your thoughts are on lever position? I find the ergo bars comfortable but I know they don't have the "look".

Obviously if it fits you well then don't change anything, but you have the hoods of your levers pointed down. I have my sram hoods horizontal and I still sometimes want to tilt them up. Usually people try to go for having horizontal or slightly upward pointing hoods.

And also in general the brake levers usually are positioned "correctly" when the bottom of the lever meets the imaginary horizontal line created by the very bottom of the drops. It appears that yours are positioned a little low.

Take all of that with a grain of salt. I know a lot of successful cyclists that complete very long rides with wonky setups that I would never find comfortable.

I won't say the bike is hot, but it IS interesting, not because juxtapositions are interesting, but because this particular assemblage appears intentional and purposive, not a mere hodge-podge. Your wife's bike is pretty, btw.
