Can't give an opinion based on a photo alone. Need more info, such as how if happened to try to differentiate between a glancing blogs that gouged out a chip and a forceful direct blow that bruised the structure in that area.

It kind of like hitting your head. One way may cause a laceration with lots of blood, but no real injury save the cut. Or you can get a severe concussion, or ever a fractured skull, with very little apparent damage.

I love these CF insecurity feeding frenzies.

These "is this ding serious....." threads rank right up there with chain lube threads for good clean BF fun.

If it were mine, I'd chip off more white paint inside the 'vee', then fill the depressions with epoxy and wrap with electrical tape until hardened. Then I'd sand and paint to match. You can watch it to see if a crack comes back; it's not going to fail catastrophically and without warning.

If my Crabons bike is dented what chain lube should I use that won't be set ablaze when the crabons asplodes?

Also follow up question when repairing my bike at home could I use off brand "Scotch" tape or do I have to buy the real stuff? I don't wanna pay that crook Calfee a bunch of money when tape probably works better!

Thats correct. It seems to just be the paint or a thin layer of carbon that chipped off. Is this usually serious? Its about the size of a pinkeynail

On occasion...some of these new folks are alright but then those that are alright typically don't step into the inside jokes, they get them and laugh.

I guess after a time you get a little jaded seeing the same old same old and I gotta make humour or just go crazy...errr crazier

I think it is really hard to tell from a photo. What caused the crack?

Stress falls off away from the joints. So far, I personally have some tolerance for worn CF, although the bike and fork I have been riding with CF are still in reasonably good shape, even if not new.

One of the problems is that you've created a small defect that has the possibility to expand.

To me, it looks like your bike took a pretty good hit. Looking at the close-ups of the photo, I'm seeing jagged lines emanating from the primary and secondary impact spots. To me, this is a cause for moderate concern.

However, it is hard to tell how deep any of the cracks and damage is.

Some of the cracks one sees may only be paint deep, it is hard to tell.

You might try the "coin test". Try to figure out if an area seems hollow.

I'd probably go with @BlazingPedals's suggestion and attempt a home rapair, but if I had access to some CF fabric, I'd reinforce the patch somewhat.

As Cliffordk suggests,

tap around with the edge of a coin & listen for uniform, sharp tone.

Lower, muted sound indicates structural damage.

I'd laminate two layers of carbon fiber cloth and resin on the inside of the tube.

What is that; about a centimeter away from a drilled and glued or riveted stress riser?

Sorry for your loss

Squeeze it real hard with your fingers.

If its cracks, toss it in the bin and be done with it.

I especially love it when folks with steel frames post the little dents they are freaking out about...
