Best way of storing new tires
Title says it all, but I thought my tires were worn, kinda panicked when I saw how hard it is to find 27 inch tires right now, and bought a pair of new tires. Then I discovered that the old tires have only really lost about 1/2 mm of rubber, so I'd like to keep them until at least they're good and used up.
Anyway, I'd like to keep the new ones nice, to have when I'm ready to put them on. What's the best way to keep them? I was thinking, just hanging in my cool basement, but is there any more to it?

Probably keep them away from anything that makes ozone. Like electric motors. UV too if you have a sunny window shining light on them all day long. Don't douse them with petroleum products that might be in various insect sprays or cleaners you might use near by.

Keep them away from ozone and out of direct sunlight. Aside from that it doesn't really matter.

I store tires hung over a curved garden hose hanger and covered with a black plastic garbage bag.

You could just commit to riding two or three hundred miles a week and you'll probably need the new tires before Fall or at least before Winter. Then proper storage won't be a big deal.<grin>

If not, good tips here. Cold, dark, and away from ozone sources are the big ones. Some tires come sealed in plastic bags. If you don't open them they should keep longer.

Or you could just not worry and put on a 700c wheelset. Unless you have some 27" rims that you're really, really fond of.

Of course your point is well taken. And neither the bike nor the rims are particularly valuable. I threw the whole thing together when I realized that I had all of the parts for yet another bike, and it kind of became my favorite for just knocking around town and going on short rides. I keep telling myself, if it becomes a hassle to get tires, I'll build new wheels. Keeping the old wheels was probably a form of procrastination.
Fortunately my existing Tire Pile already meets the suggestions made in this thread, so I threw the new tires onto the pile.

I just inherited a 35 year old tire. It's been in a box in a basement most of that time.
I won't be riding it but from the looks of it, I totally could, with not problems.
Put it in a drawer or closet and try to remember you still have it when the time comes.
