1975 Masi Gran Criterium - just acquired
I just received this. Pictures are as it came out of the box (reassembled of course). It is a CyclArt restoration and very well done. Martano rims are a nice correct touch as are the cable ends. I'll take more pictures in my more traditional, in front of the garage door, setting soon.

I will, I will, I will get mine repainted, and rebuild it this "summer". I have the correct original decals, the money just keeps squirting out of my hands. Very beautiful, very.

The standing joke with Jim Cunningham was whether he did CyclArt repaints on any Masis he had originally painted. His personal Gran Criterium, which is of about the same vintage and frame size as yours, was one he thinks he might have painted originally.
My only suggestion is to replace those brake pads with KoolStops, in the interest of safety. Other than that, beautiful bike in superb condition.

NIce 'new' Masi. I hear those bikes are OK.
Does anyone know what paint was used at the Masi factory BITD? Was it always Imron? I always assumed my black Masi was just enamel, possibly stoved enamel, but maybe not.

When Masi started in Carlsbad the “set up” materials included paint.
when that supply was used up, PPG Polane was used. Note the paint then is very different than what can be purchased today.
there was another divergency.
I asked Brian Baylis as one of my Carlsbad bikes has really fragile paint. The owner of Masi Carlsbad also owned Elixir Industries - an aluminum extrusion products company- they had been introduced to a clear primer sealer- name not recalled. Was used at Masi for a time 1974-75. Did not stick well to the metal long term.
The original “sammotana” yellow was very hard to replicate in the PPG system. That color was offered, but dropped as a typical color.
( like the original Sandstone Beige Metallic for the 1990 Lexus LS400... very few made early then essentially dropped- took extra steps to produce- the order book was so full that one waited or changed color choice to get a car)
Good looking bike! I have one that color- much smaller.

Posting went wonky.
the perfectly correct rim graphics should be the earlier Martano label. Masi worked through the initial sets of rims from the original shipment for the entire time at Carlsbad

Yes the wings. But I thought the effort to at least put Martanos on it was commendable.

Gorgeous! You must have to load it up to take it to a paved road! Do you even ride it?

Just got it a couple of days ago. Yes I have to transport this kind of road bike to a suitable surface as I live about 5 miles back on dirt road. Honestly I don't intend to ride this one. I've had 8 Masi GCs and have ridden them plenty.

I have a Merckx repainted by CyclArt.
Excellent paint.
I was told (only a few years back) that they refuse to use decals matching the original ones. I didn't ask why. Maybe yours are a perfect match, or it doesn't matter to you. Mute point as they have moved on to Allied Cycle Works (I think).
Your Masi is beautiful.

finally saw the images on a "big" screen. Interesting a '75 with the stamped, modified seat lug. '75 was the transition year to investment cast. My view is 1975 was the optimum year, the staff all knew their jobs. Mario was still there and setting up the jigs.
The Blue used by Cyclart on the seat bands and the chainstay text fill is lighter than the originals. Most of the bikes by 1975 had the Milano cut out from the heralds.
Support you Flag, Buy American, Buy a Masi !

Yeah, WOW! Truly, it's a museum piece. Was it caught in a time warp. The chrome, even the aluminum, shows no hint of age (corrosion).
It's a grail bike for me.

The Blue background downtube rectangle was most often seen on the yellow bikes and the light silver. I would call on the light blue uncommon but not wrong. Looks good.
after Carlsbad closed- things got squirrelly- consider the Breaking Away bike... downtube letter fill did not match that on the chainstay...
blue on an orange red bike?!? With white Fill on the downtube... Bueller?
