My furloughed friday ride the other day was a small group of us starting in the neighborhood and riding into downtown Houston for breakfast tacos. 50 miles round trip. Rode through the super rich people neighborhoods - and past Roger Clemens' house. Spoiler alert: it's large.

Was a new route for me so I had a great time. Speeds were slow because of lots of stop signs and lights, and dodging tons of people in the parks.

I rocked my single speed 80's Raleigh.

I rode back up to Gold Hill today, about 10 days after the second of two snowstorms came thru the area. I was expecting a sloppy ride, but things looked about as dry as last time I was up this way.

Riding up US-36 bikeway this morning into Boulder Valley.


The climb up to Gold Hill is a bit of a grind. That line in the distance is US-36.


Getting closer now - my road is visible in upper left, while the paved road that goes up the canyon floor is to the right.


A few more bends and Gold Hill is now in view. Seriously, it's there - its that patch of bare ground on that hill.

That plaque shows the names of all of the visible peaks - that's Mt. Meeker to the far right, kinda blown out (sorry). I do like this overlook, as it's unmarked and not visible from the road.


Gold Hill is a neat place to take visitors - its a preserved mining town, but also a place people live and work.

The hotel, with the Gold HIll Inn to the right. Both are currently closed due to COVID-19.


Further up the hill in town is the general store


And a bit further is the museum


I stopped at the store for a late breakfast / early lunch then headed on home. Weather was starting to turn.

After a week of rain and temps 20 degrees below normal, we got sunny and 60 today. Did 25 miles north.

Found a large rock in the middle of the road.



Center-punched it with both wheels - rear tire was flat within 20 seconds.



Had an extra tube and always carry my trusty Zefal. Was back in business in 10 minutes.



Leaves are coming out slowly, since it's been cool. Looking up the North Shore Channel
towards the lake.



Got "double-doinked" by the Purple Line at Isabella.

Longish fixed gear ride today at 32 miles. My legs are always a special kind of worn out after a long ride on this bike.

65° and sunny today. I wouldn't be surprised if my local bike path set a record for total number of people. It was absolutely packed.

Yes, I'm still riding, but like everybody else I'm doing things a little differently. Saturday 04-25-20, between two rainy days, I went for a 26.8-mile road-and-trail ride in Montgomery County, PA, that included a meal stop. But . . . no Wendy's. No Applebee's. No places like that. I had to settle for a Royal Farms convenience store where I got a grilled chicken sandwich, their western fries, and a drink. Hey, it'e either that or those tasteless energy bars. Nothing on this ride worth photographing either.

By the way, I didn't realize my bike was 10 years old! But yep, I'm still riding it, and thanks to the folks at my local bike shop, Bikesport in Trappe, PA, it still works great. I got it tuned up in February before all this hit, and it's a good thing now I did.

Today I took my Gazelle Team ForelDorado-Golff from 1996 for a short evening ride.



Due to a lack of rain some roads in the forest were a bit dusty but she still looks amazing in the evening sun. All pictures taken just southwest of Breda (the Netherlands) near a small village called Effen.

The Vittoria tire with the cut held up on a hard smashing 8 mile ride this afternoon. Went fast, hit bumps and bunny hopped home. Tire held up fine.

I got out for 16 miles northwest of LA, a few easy hills, and a nice ride. Mid 80s, just enough breeze, great day to ride. I was really tired, and thought it was because I didn't sleep well last night. When I checked Strava, I had 6 personal bests, on my 1964 Legnano, that I've been riding since new. One PB was on a short but steep hill pulling a 42/28 low gear. I love that old bike.

I took my De Rosa out for a short hilly ride above the Claremont Hotel in the Berkeley hills.



I usually climb up Tunnel Road, which is a curvy 4-mile climb, not very steep, nice view of the SF bay--which also makes it a very popular route for local cyclists. Instead, to stay clear of the crowds, I climbed up the next road over, Claremont Drive, which covers about the same elevation in about half the mileage. It's a steep, nasty climb--2 miles with an average grade of 9.3%. I was reminded why I generally avoid it. I stopped here for a photo op (and an excuse to catch my breath).
