Headaches while training - have you gotten them?
I'm writing an article for Fitness mag about headaches (i get them pretty regularly myself, sometimes during or soon after exercise).
Wondering if anyone else out there has gotten a headache or migraine while cycling - and what they did about it?

I get it during intense exercise during and after. It gets more frequent when ambient temperature is 90 + degrees.

Hey, quote me in your article. I use cycling as an outlet from chronic migraine.
Or not. Its pretty depressing.

I get headaches but I've learned what my triggers are. I wouldn't say exercise was a trigger. But if tight blood vessels contribute then you might benefit from B6 and B12.

Proper hydration. Dehydration can increase the risk or cause headaches when exercising...or even when sedentary. It might not be the only reason, but is def. one factor to consider.

I get them. I've known for years that it is frequently lack of electrolytes. Fully hydrated -- but covered in salt, and I will be extremely sick with a headache.

I get headaches with really intense training rides. I've never been able to fix or prevent them with extra hydration or electrolytes. I just take naproxyn sodium and it goes away.

Long-time migraine sufferer here.
I take Tylenol or Naproxen almost daily. I get migraines the day after extreme exercising. Had 'em since I was little. The frequency and intensity has gotten worse in the last few years. My doctor has been trying everything for me, but nothing seems to help in the long term. My biggest trigger is stress, mainly due to my "on guard 24/7 personality".
I just had Botox treatments on the most painful areas on my head, helps keep the intensity down, but I can still feel the pain everywhere else. Sumatriptan works wonders, but cannot be used more than 2x a month.

i've actually found that exercise helps with my headaches, and i get headaches almost daily. i started having migraines when i was 10, still get them every now and then, but i do get tension headaches several times a week. a couple doctors prescribed a couple different meds that didn't really do much, and then one doctor asked how much exercise i get. when i work out regularly, i don't get headaches. i've even started a ride when i could feel a headache coming on, and after about 10 minutes it's gone.

I can tell I'm getting dehydrated when headaches set in. I know it's time start chugging. Proper hydration cures many cycling ailments!
