I coat both wheels in an amber-like resin compound, tires and all. Sure, it makes the bike unrideable, but everything looks really neat and clean.

Coolness uber alles.

I despise the cheap plastic presta caps on new tubes. If these aluminum caps are uncool, I need to add them to my Fred list.
Do you need to use a special anti-seize compound when using with brass valve stems?

LOL! Don't laugh -- too much -- but the look from that knurling is part of why I buy that brand in specific.

Aren't they there to prevent the metal stem from poking the tube when folded? That's the only real practical purpose I see.

It was necessary to bump a thread on valve caps?

I do have a bunch, but they don't attach well to hats...

They are definitely un-cool. Never saw Greg Lemond using them or Pee-Wee Herman!

Just wondering if its cool factor to leave it off???
Wouldnt know, I always wear my caps.

Hard to believe it's been 2 years since this thread on valve caps went 15 pages...the things we find to talk about in February I needed a couple more schrader caps for a '73 Raleigh Grand Prix. With a penchant for metal truck caps, I went scanning the gravel driveway at the back of tire place where I had new tires put on my car (where they do their truck business). I found just what I needed, but still on the stem. It took Liquid Wrench & pliers to get them off. I spray painted them red to better match the burgundy frame.

They're one more thing to deal with every time you add air and their only useful purpose is preventing damage to your rolled up spare from the valve.

They don't keep air in and screwed shut presta valves are adequately protected from contamination.

Nice to see this very important topic resurrected, hopefully this thread will go for another 15 pages so we can finally settle this argument if it's right or wrong to use valve stem caps...I personally use valve stem caps on both Presta and Schrader valves.

I sometimes ride through mud and water. I use valve caps to keep the dirt and mud out.

One of my bikes has Presta valves. I protect them with Schrader conversions.
