… in that we have owned several dozens of bikes over the years. Asking which is my favorite would be akin to asking which kitchen utensil is my favorite in the drawer.

But in the spirit of question asked, I enjoyed a 1977 Centurion Semi Pro that had Phil hubs and half-step gearing, rode wonderfully. I sold it.

I also liked a 1982 Fuji Team that I had. It fit perfectly and had a responsive, fun feel that's hard to otherwise describe. Sold that, too.

Currently, I have a 1979 Peugeot PXN-10LE with tubulars. The ride is pretty delightful, and definitely different than other bikes. At 21 lbs with light wheels, it accelerates nicely and corners well, too.

Generally, whichever one I am riding at the moment.

Otherwise, my 2914 Workswell 066, with Ultegra running gear. Though I only use it for about half my rides, it is (by a few ounces) the lightest, and it is the most responsive (not the most comfortable .... but good enough.) My Fuji is also my favorite bike. I use ti for almost half my rides. It can do anything on the road and a little off, and can haul a pretty big load, yet unladen, is still quick enough and plenty fun. But I have different bikes for different tasks and moods ... and when I finally find and fix a few nagging issues with my Workswell 093 and my Raleigh Olympian, they will also be my favorite bikes.

If I had more time and money I would have more favorite bikes.

My favorite bike is not a constant. I have 8 bikes, all road type. At this moment, 6 of them are operable. One is de-constructed, down to frame, for a total maintenance/overhaul service. The other is a frame/fork and components that still needs to be built. I purchased a NIB Soma Smoothie, Tange Prestige frame, with new Smoothie CF fork. I am using all new components/parts for the build. including a Shimano 105 7000 group set that I have on order. Once I get that bike built, it is likely that it will be my latest favorite for a spell.

I absolutely love retro/modern steel framed bicycles!

As of the last couple of years, I'd say my Wabi Special fixed gear. After getting an inexpensive FG bike about 4-5 years ago, I really started to like the experience. So I decided to step up and get the fancy Wabi a year later. It always amazes me how nice it rides, and especially how even when riding hills and rolling terrain that I would have normally shifted gears on, it comes out just as fast or sometimes even faster than the geared bike.

My Nashbar AL-1 was converted to a 1x9 system that has been dialed in precisely to my needs, and is also becoming one of my favorites.

Absolutely love my new bike, 2020 Giant Defy Advanced 1 (upgraded to di2). Comfortable, fast, and the di2 is fantastic!




Still have a soft spot for my first bike, 2018 Fuji Transonic, the one that got me hooked on cycling.

I fell in love with a Giant Escape , 2015 model year the frame geometry and the blue/green color scheme was gorgeous. I loved that bike, even if a tad too tall for me, I bought it used, and I recently sold it. I've gotten into fixed gear lately, so I'm still looking, thinking about a build in my head, nothing crazy just a basic frame with better components to see if I really want to fully invest that route.

Just sold my Kestrel Rubicon Comp , gorgeous bike but not my thing.

My current favorite is my Nashbar Sport RX , I love the sleek look and the black paint, but sadly I'm going to sell it because I never ride it and I live in Florida which is super flat so I don't need a bike with gearing. I know I'll regret it but I'd rather sell it to someone who will enjoy it and actually use it.

Between the 9 bikes I have, I have to choose just one?
That's like trying to pick your favorite child when you love all of them....
But...kids are brats and bikes do exactly what I tell them!

So probably, my favorite would be my Optima Baron lowracer recumbent. It's fast, fun, and very comfortable. But, that's not saying I give it more love than others. I give equal time to each except for the two garage queens.

Toss up between a 1979 Raleigh Professional and my 2001 JMG (hobby frame builder, namely, me) Both bikes are pure joyfulness when ridden, and very different bikes. The Pro is a race bred machine, very quick to steer, the JMG is the perfect all day rider. Either way, it is pure bliss and love when rolling down the road.

I like different bikes for different situations. Where there is sand or mud, it's the fat bike. For rides on good surfaces, it's a regular mountain bike. I have another bike with a rack on the back, for when I want to carry things.

Both my bikes are low end. One is a basic aluminum framed commuter type with an 8 speed internal gear hub. A really nice bike for the likes of me, it rides nice, and does what it's supposed to do well.

Yet, my even lower end Schwinn single speed just calls to me. The longish frame, the fit, the slower handling. I swear if I ever lose this bike I'll have to get a replacement that's similar in layout. If I had more money to blow, I'd probably get a Pashley Guv'nor. That type of bike speaks to me equally well, I imagine it would ride the way I prefer.

Funny thing is when I think of slow handling bikes, they all are quicker handling compared to any motorcycle I've ever owned or ridden. It's probably only a few more ounces of lean to turn my slow handling bicycle compared to my quicker handling bicycle.

Rides like a souped up Cadillac.
Gun to my Head, out of the four I have, it has to be my '86 Centurion Ironman Classic.
It was built to go 10 to 112 miles ftom point A to point B and possibly back to point A with no drafting as fast as your fitness level will allow you. The Gripshift allows me to stay in the Aero position while shifting the Dura Ace front and rear derailleurs. The Dura Ace HS, BB, and hubs keep me spinning smoothly. Rounded off with Shimano 600 crankset, brakeset, and aero seatpost.

My favorite bike is one I saw a picture of a few years ago- it was a 65cm Tom Ritchey handbuilt fillet brazed frame from 1981(about the last year he did personally road frames for a long time).
My size, my birth year, and fillet brazed by him.

Throw a modern wheelset and r7000 ultegra on that- about the coolest bike I can imagine.
