Removing downtube shifters and putting cable stops problem
I bought a very nice old Swedish classic racing bike that I wanted to use as racing bike with a bit more modern components. (I know some of you might hate that, but I think the frame is so nice it deserves som modern parts)
But I was wondering about the down tube shifter stop think that remains when you take of the shifters. How are they attached? I thought that I would ask here before I start to pull them to hard. Also, maybe there not going to be in the way for modern cable stops?
This is what im talking about:
The bike in itīs original state if any body is curious:

It doesn't look like a structural part of DT shifter braze on. That said I'm guessing it is pressed on.

I think it's common to not remove them but rather use cable stops like this

The aluminum stop-plates are just pressed on; put a screwdriver blade behind the plate and twist, and they should pop off. The post/bosses are brazed onto the down tube permanently. Don't try to remove them.

I have always seen them listed as part of the shifter, thought they just slipped on and off. I didn't realize you were meaning the shifter stops.

They where quite firmly on. But I didīnt try that hard. Some times these parts goes on before the paint has hardened ands gets a bit stuck. But i don't think it's smart to just put a screwdriver behind it and twist, because of the paint job and the thin 531SL steel.

Use a claw retractor (?) or just take a screwdriver or something similar, place it on the inside of the part and then with a mallet or hammer tap gently on the screwdriver.

Grab a pliers and remove the nylon friction washer and plate may come off easier. Then just install downtube cable stop adapters. Shimano and Campagnolo both made them and easily found.

For any future interest, it was not a big problem to remove them. The reason I asked here before, was that I know i'm the inpatient type, that can be a bit pragmatic with my bike mechanics. This was a very nice frame, so I thats why hesitated and asked here before.
