New Fixed Gear (Newfix)

First, I'll start with the Newfix classification.
It will refer to the theoretically achievable performance option according to the table:


The cross shows that there will be no leader with a motor and a protective screen, but there will be a bicycle of a similar design, only with a muscular drive. Consider the fix that was taken for the prototype of Newfix.
The most important thing about this bike is that its transmission is equipped with an intermediate shaft.
On this bike, the American Denis Muller-Korenek set a world speed record of 295.6 km / h.
It is known that a dragster with a protective screen accelerated Denis to 241.402 km / h, and then she pedaled herself up to the speed record.
The wheels of the bike were 17 ”, with an outer diameter of approximately 510 mm.
In one revolution, the wheel travels a path of 510x3.14 = 1.6m.
Transfer on the intermediate shaft 60T / 12t = 5.
Transfer from the intermediate shaft to the carriage shaft 60T / 12t = 5.
The total gear ratio is 5x5 = 25.
We calculate the distance for one pedal rotation 1.6x25 = 40m.
Let's calculate the maximum cadence Denis Müller-Korenek 295.6 / (40x0.06) = 123.17 rpm.
Cadence on a bicycle accelerated by a dragster to a speed of 241.402 km / h:
241.402 / (40x0.06) = 100.6 rpm.
Thus, with the already pumped kinetic energy (with the help of a dragster), Denis twisted and increased the cadence from 100.6 rpm to 123.17 rpm.
I will not expand on the synchronism of entering and exiting the protective screen with the driver of the dragster (also a woman), about all the speed modes is written in many articles.


Now look what I invented: from the Denis Müller-Korenek bicycle gear (or a similar gear from the beaten record holder Fred Rompelberg) I took the idea of ​​the intermediate shaft. And I equipped this intermediate shaft with an additional pair of pedals:
This is how Newfix turned out.

And this is the specification of a fix, adjusted personally for me, 100 kg of a 58-year-old suffocator:

A copy of this picture is notarized as the stage of the birth of Newfix. Now, when assembling Newfix, there will be small changes, not like in the VO drawing. For example: the fork will not be carbon, but aluminum, the star of the power transmission is 48T instead of 46T, the cranks are 170mm on all systems, matched to the even chenline: front L = 107mm and rear L = 112mm carriages. Why 53T star and 22t high speed transmission? This is a 2.4 gearbox, and there are no standard systems with fewer teeth than 22t on sale. It was possible to make homemade ones with fewer teeth, but I didn't want to.
And now I will give the ideal speed characteristics of Newfix, naturally, without taking into account aerodynamic drag. Who wants to, blow the Newfix in the pipe, calculate the drag coefficients in quadrature, I don't want to.
Measured actual wheel circumference L = 26 ”(35-559) = 2m.
Gear P1 = 48T / 17T = 2.824.
Gear P2 = 53T / 22T = 2.409.
The total gear ratio is 2.824x2.409 = 6.8.
For one revolution of the high-speed transmission pedals, the wheel travel will be 2x6.8 = 13.6m.
I am suffocated, I can only rotate the cadence up to 120 rpm.
The maximum speed in the first low gear of Newfix (this is the usual fix in Newfix) with this cadence will be: 120x2x2.824x0.06 = 40.666 km / h.
It is up to this speed that Newfix will accelerate when the legs start to break off the lower gear pedals of the fix.
At this moment, the legs are thrown to a high pitch.
What is the initial cadence of an already overclocked high-speed transmission?
This will be 40.666 / (13.6x0.06) = 49.8 rpm.
From such a cadence, you should turn it in the overclocked gear 6.8, and not turn it from scratch in the sweat of your brow.None of the suffocated people have ever driven such gears, even though they were overclocked.
Therefore, practice will show the possibility of crushing me, dystrophic, 6.8 gears, that is, where it will be possible - flat, gentle hills or steep.
Well, and the hypothetical theoretical maximum speed of the chiffonier Newfix without taking into account air resistance at 120 rpm cadence: 120x13.6x0.06 = 97.9 km / h.
By the way, 26 "gears for overclocking will be easier than similar fixed 28" gears, so this will be a small head start for the wardrobe.

Pilot model:
When running in, I found the chain overtension.
But even with overload at a distance of 10.6 km: average speed 22.2 km / h; maximum speed 47.5 km / h; climb 96 m.
When the chain is released, I think that the speed indicators will be higher.

New transmission patent:

First ride on Newfix. The mistake was to put the stem in the opposite direction (Tiller) - so I wobble along the road. The maximum speed is 44 km / h. Now everything has been fixed - the stem looks forward and the bike does not wobble.

Second exit to Newfix. Turned the removal forward, the handling is excellent. At a distance of 11 km, the average speed is 22.2 km / h, the maximum is 47.5 km / h, and the climb is 96 meters. This is better than all the indicators of my three fixed gear I drove. At the same time, I found a very tight chain. I added two chain links, but I haven't skated yet. I think that the course will be very easy, and the speed indicators will improve.

I have my own opinion (IMXO) on the perpendicularity of the seat tube. This position is advantageous in terms of power pedaling.

At the dawn of bicycle construction, they fought for speed by increasing the diameter of the wheel - they built large penny farthings. The man sat at a height of 2 meters and rotated fixed pedals without a transmission, attached directly to the wheel axle.
However, such a landing was very dangerous and when hitting an obstacle the rider tumbled forward.
Therefore, for safety, they began to place the saddle back.
Then they invented a "safe" bicycle with two identical modern-type wheels, but at the same time retaining the position of the saddle backward (the genetic memory of forward falls simply eaten into the brain).In some cases, positioning the saddle backward is not very convenient - for example, when riding uphill.
Therefore, steep mountains overcome not in the saddle, but while standing!

That's quite possible. I'll show you how. Newfix is a universal transmission. It can be configured not only for high-speed, but also for power pedaling, which is in demand on tall bicycles. With a simple fixed gear, a heavy tall bike is hard to spin, but with Newfix it will be easy. For example, 2x2 = 4. Overclocking 2 on fixed is very easy, and total 4 is even faster!
