My sister was visiting and her car was destroyed and I think they lost one other car there. And my younger brother was hit in a crosswalk by a 16 year old girl who dove to the curb lane to pass traffic that had stopped for him.

My father had a Pinto, one of the early ones which were supposedly the worst. It was parked in front of his house and a kid in a 55 Chevy ran into it at speed. Hit it hard enough to send it 2 houses down. It did not catch fire or leak any fuel. They lived on a busy street with 4 lanes @45 mph which means 60 mph for some.

My rear shifting became quite sloppy during yesterday’s gritty ride. I cleaned/degreased drivetrain and relubed everything.
BUT
It’s still not shifting well and I have isolated the problem to the RD which is not swinging back well, and causing a severe case of slack-chain. The return spring on RD seems weak. See pic below. Suggestions?? I think I had this problem before and tried to tighten the circular return spring and it’s been several years, all I recall is it ended up not working and I got very frustrated.
Help!

Thanks. I just lubed the pivot point and it’s slightly better already. Will work on it. Also possible chain is getting old, my vernier calipers are digital with a solar cell, so a rainy day like today renders it useless!

You might have to take it apart. If you remove it from the frame I think there is a circlip holding the bolt in the derailleur. It might be cruddy in there and if you don't want to try and remove the bolt you might be able to get something like WD-40 to soak into it.

Yeah I may need to play with it. I do recall doing something like this about 7 or 8 years ago. Memory is vague, but I remember a circular spring with teeth at ends and a decent amount of angst and censored words involved.

Just so you don't feel bad, my wife's bike was making a lot of racket with the cassette on the Kickr. I found the nearest Park tool and it measured 1.0. I've never had a chain that worn in my life. I used a different gauge and it verified that I was an idiot for not keeping a better eye on her chain. As I posted earlier, she ended up with a new Ultegra chain and Dura Ace cassette. She couldn't believe how smooth it was on the Kickr.
