I received this medal in the mail for finishing a ride, started to toss it in a drawer with others, but then I realized this is no trinket!

Naw, PMW's is vertically stiff and laterally stiff.

Srsly though, the release angle is great as is the leverage. Lots of bottle openers from companies are kind of junk....that one is one of my favs.

And, oddly enough, not to cycling enthusiasts... but all were wine drinkers. We've been houseguests more times than I can recount, and thought that these would make nice thank-you gifts; I recall staying in San Diego, Minneapolis and particularly Honolulu. Not 100% certain if they are all being used, or simply displayed. They certainly look nice, particularly in the wooden presentation box. I just wish they came with a matching foil cutter.

Only one in the bike area really, but daily carry swiss army knife and Gerber multitool, and I have one of those bike shaped keychain bits that I only

now realized is a bottle opener.

You are allowed beer in the workshop?

But my wife told me only tea, or coffee if it is a special occasion.

This Park tool lives near the mini-fridge in the room next to the garage/bike workshop.

I kinda like the King Cage version:

Then there's the easily accessible while you ride stem cap version.. but I suppose you have to work fast or you'll pour a bunch of beverage down your headtube.

I did once work out how many bottle openers you could build into a bike and came up with 6ish, one or two dropouts with bottle openers, two SPD pedals, a headset spacer, a seatpost clamp, and a headset cap. I didn't know about the derailleur hanger or if anyone integrated an opener into a cage, saddle or accessory mount. As for off bike, I have one built into a belt buckle, a couple of multi tools and Swiss army knives, a Yakima key fob and some souvenir openers from visiting all the local breweries.

An interesting question, and potentially more if you are running an old steel bike with steel accessories.

It also depends how one defines a bottle opener. When I first visited Poland, back in 1996, hotel rooms were pretty basic but had both carbonated and non-carbonated water supplied in bottles with crown corks. No opener, though, so the wooden furniture was edged with 'bite' marks where people had put the edge of the bottle cap on the edge of the furniture and hit the cap smartly. I know, I did it myself. The point is that those steel front headlamp mounts were perfect for the task as well, or the steel saddle bag strap mounts on the back of leather saddles.

So another question is in how many ways can a bike be used as a bottle opener?

The headlight mount as bottle opener is new to me but Shimano SPD pedals are well known. I once used the door hinge of a Ford Fiesta on a very tough screw cap

Some fun ones. Though I have to wonder about the propriety of a (beer) bottle opener on a tool for an AR-15.

I have too many to count. Just about every tool in the tool box can open a beer. Here are a few: the campy dropout is over 35 years old and stays in my pocket every day, the surf board holds all the tool box keys, the Moosehead came in a twelve pack as a bonus, and the pliers are just one example of a tool from the tool box that will open a bottle. Smiles, MH

the Galil rifle has a bottle opener built right into the gun. The back story is that soldiers were using magazines to open bottles which bent the feed lips and caused jams so the IDF decided a built in opener was a better solution.

When I traveled to Rome on business and we went to see the Vatican over the weekend, there was a souvenir stand selling bottle openers with a plastic embedded photo of Pope John Paul II. A colleague coined it the "Popener" He bought a dozen for his extended family. I wish I had bought one just for the strangeness. Sorry, no photo.
