Looking for seat post options : French '70s 2

I inherited an old Champion Du Monde from the early 70's
good condition but with a seat post of 24.6-9, call it 25mm that is only 5"
Sheldon's French pages not much help, unfortunately
22" frame is OK for me but seat a good 4" too low f
Not sure what to do with it.
weld on an extension ? Sell to shorter rider?

.
...I don't get a good feeling from your rather casual mention of a seat post diameter of "24.6-9, call it 25".
If the post that is in there mow is a good fit, measure it with a caliper. If it is not a good fit, find someone to help you figure out what is a good fit.

If you can't measure a seat post within a tenth of a mm, one way or the other, you are not going to get a good result unless you get lucky by mistake.

I would wonder how many different post sizes were used in that model? Anyone here got one / had one? Sub-25mm seatpost are not all that common to my knowledge and 25mm seatposts are. Even my MS tubed Sannino uses a 25mm.
and then there is always the situation where the seatpost has been previously fitted with an incorrect size - Like the Bob Jackson I had that came with a 27.3 Campy post that must have required some REAL effort to install cos it took some REAL effort PLUS to get it out.

just sayin'

Many Peugeots also came with a seatpost shim/sleeve. Take the shim out and measure the lug/tube opening not the seatpost.

3alarmer good call
I remeasured the post at several spots to look again for patterns in the variation, and it is not distorted,
but varies in that range and on a lot closer inspection goes up to 25.34
It's not ovalized and there is no corrosion, ? dents, variance, chroming ?
the socket is slotted not round, as is not unusual, 24.64 to 25.60mm.
My guess is that the post is "25mm", and since I originally just saw the smaller measurements and assumed they were the "real"diameter.
Not seeing that size on Sheldon's list should have been a tip off. 25mm's are to be had and should fit
Whew. came with a 5"post that gives a pedal to seat of 33" which is about 4.5" short of where I live.
Seems original, Bike , a Champion du Monde appears to have come from a small factory in Mulhouse during the bike boom of the early/mid '70's
Pleasant enough steel frame simplex/Mafac running gear , though geared for flat racing 50-48 x12-22 10 speed 25lbs

Good to recheck, also kept me from trying to use a 22.3 threaded to 25.3mm threadless stem extender inverted as a seat post,
which would have exposed me to scurrilous comment, no doubt.
