Then, I brushed my teeth with my toothbrush, which hangs out in the top tube bags. When I was done, I put the toothbrush back. I got my firestarting stuff out of the same bag and lit some collected wood in the fire pit at the shelter, and then put it back where it goes.
I got food and my cook stuff out of the framebag, made dinner, and then repacked stuff.
That's it! I think of the bike as like, a cabinet full of all my stuff. I never take the bags off the bike, and I never take everything out at once.

That's quite the duct tape patch, looks well done but what did you do, it looks like it's covering quite a large area?

I'm new to the forum.
Started cycling spring of 2016. built my way up to 2450km trek across the Canadian prairies. Here I was tired of the Saskatchewan headwinds all day. Stopped for a snack, and drink out of the wind. threw a bag on the ground to form a lounge chair. Fell asleep, (ha-ha) great rest. The trip and the wind were still there waiting.
A 2016 Norco Indie 4 adapted to touring. The city, and aerodyne bars worked great for me at age 56. Trigger shifters.

P.S. I could not resist a cherry pie one day, ate 1/2 and packed the other half off to be eaten that night. Great trip. To the Pacific next summer.

My Girl Ingrid
She's a swarthy gal, built to be sturdy.
Bought the frame and fork, then moved the wheelset from my old GT mountain bike. I had the wheelset built the previous summer because I kept popping spokes during my commute. Had the foresight to get disc hubs even though I was running V-brakes on the GT.
Thought about transferring over some of the other parts but decided not to.
I've done a bunch of 2-4 day trips, a 9 day trip and a week long trip down the Oregon Coast from Astoria to Florence. April 2017 I'm picking up in Florence and riding to San Diego. I'm meeting my girlfriend in Anaheim for a mid-trip Disneyland vacation. It will be a little surreal riding my bike there, haha.

that's pretty typical for a new bike after a while, and I'm surprised you didn't have any break, given all the extra weight on the rear wheel, but if it was still working well after they were retensioned then thats pretty good.

Hi guys, I'm new here.
Because i don't believe you need money to have an awesome touring bike,
that's why i represent you: Koga Ghetto (Ridge) Runner!
Specs:
Frame: Koga Ridge Runner powder coated in matte Grey. Solid.
Wheels: Deore hubs, Sapim spokes, Bontager 26inch rims.
Fenders: SKS
Shifting: Shimano Deore 3x9 group with SLX rear derailleur.
Brakes: Shimano Deore levers, Tektro cantilevers (front) and BMX (back) finished with Jagwire cables.
Saddle: Brooks B17
Stem, seatpost, bell, bidonholder, rear- and frontrack are some Aliexpress-cheap-brandless stuff.
Bought the frame with the shifting-group, sadle and wheels for 150€ and did the rest by my self. I'm driving this bike for 2 years now every day and did +5.000km and it's a killer, only thing i had to replace are brakepads, chain and cassette. I drove Salsa, Koga (recent models), Kona,.. and just don't think it's worth the money. Did many tours trough the Benelux, France, Germany,.. and planning a trip trought Switserland this summer.

- Ortlieb panniers
- Bottle cage holder & adapters everywhere because hell yeah we need some water if we ride hard.

My Tyrell IVE loaded for my recent non-camping Perth>Margaret River trip.

Ortlieb Classic front bag on Tern luggage truss - (carries the DSLR and lenses; and related items)
Rear rack with a China made (GDW brand) bag which is water resistant.
Tripod.
Back stuff secured with old tubes on hooks.
Top tube bag with the phone for navigation and stuff I access more often (eg. lip balm; food; sunscreen)
Rain cape in bag secured on the top tube.

I don't notice the spring when I am riding, it helps keep the front from flip flopping when the bike is parked.

yup, little critters have chewed through a fairly thick dry bag hanging up on a canoe trip once many years ago, and I've known people who have had holes chewed in their tents when they've left food in them also. Still have the dry bag with the same tape patch on it like your pannier.
