I'm turning 49 next March; been riding park since 2007 with a few injury fuelled hiatus in between. Started track bike riding 4 yrs back, thinking it may divert me away from the 20" bike & the injuries, but no... they always find ways to lure you back. Started flatland last March just to see if I will finally decide that I'm too old for park, and that doesn't work neither.

Its a mix n match of what I can afford from around here, ordered a few from state side when our currency was better, I m in Malaysia. Now running 2008 Colony frame, plus some Odsy, Shadow n Proper parts, an average setup. Changed to 2.1 tyres recently, the skinnies are not too grippy

I'm still shopping for a proper bmx bike. Hopefully in the next month I'll have one.... My piece of junk works with little tricks for now... My tires are 2.125 also. Just some cheap Bells I bought from Kmart when it was going out of business. Were your previous tires fatter than 2.1? I think tread has something to do with how sticky they feel too....

Dent was act of vandalism! I guess they were trying to remove the lock and take the bike. I nvr tried anything bigger than 2.1, my frame will only allow 2.2 I think. Modern tire compound are so unbelivable, they work awesome despite the slick look. Be careful with the cheapies, don't ever consider their frame fork or crankset! If they give way while you're on 'em, might be some painful experience.

Haha we are everywhere, but a bit shy and illusive tho! I remember in the late 90's n early 2000, when bmx-forum was alive, nice to get in touch with bmx dads from across the globe..

Werd. We've got a few years left of doing some activity. Might as well make the most of them!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I would've gotten into BMX earlier in life. Although even though it's not as popular now as maybe in the past, I think the bikes are better now.

Just bought my first decent entry level bmx bike. I'm stoked. It feels really good. I got it used for 310 with an extra set of bars. It's all chromoly with 48 spline cranks and all sealed bearings.

And I don't live by the money makes you better at stuff thing, but some tricks are definitely easier with this than my cheap bike. It's lighter. And has better geometry for freestyling.

I was so free at work, found an interesting FB (22inch bmx) hence was reading about those. Seems like a good no. of older riders already did or considering to migrate to that size. Very tempting! What do you all think?

The Supercross track in Rock Hill has rental bikes and scheduled open practice times. Or they have a new rider orientation class.

I'm 60 and have watched lots of racing there. I have been thinking about taking the orientation class.

Go for it!!! If I was in better health I might get into racing too. But I've been battling lyme disease for the last 15 years and just starting to feel better. Not ready for THAT much work. LOL. I might wanna go watch sometime though. They have a pump track where I grew up not too far away. I might have to check out when they race.

Yeah, the chainstays are at just over 13". I'm not sure EXACTLY what it is. But it's close. The manufacture says it's 13.38". But it's kind of weird, if I had the axles "slammed" in the drop outs I think it would be a hair less than 13". But it's a bit back to adjust for the chain.

I'm not sure what to tell you about 22'ers.... I've not been on one yet. I ride a 26" bike for exercise and mine is a 20" bmx. I'm not overly big so I don't feel it's weird. A big thing is bar height. The first cheap bike I bought had like 7.75" bars on it and I felt like it was soooooo uncomfortable. And I had some almost 9" bars I had and also it was a cheap bike so I could raise the stem. This one I have now has 10" bars on it. I tried the stock 8.85" and those weren't bad either.

I'm 5'7". So..... A lot of guys I know are a lot taller than I am and still ride 20"ers. But Top Tube length is usually 21" or longer and they typically have higher bars. 10" is about as big as they come though.... There are a few guys that have 22"ers on the bmx site I go on. But not very many. I think it's a good solution but if you can find a 20"er that feels right, I think it's the better way to go if your wanting to do tricks. It will be lighter. On the other hand, there may be something to the 22'ers.... Or 24". It's kind of preference. Just depends on how much tricks you wanna try. I was starting to do tricks on my 26" cruiser, so you can do tricks on anything. But the bigger and heavier the bike, stuff gets harder to do.

That probably wasn't helpful and I never rode a 22"er. So take my experience for what it is. Not overly in depth. I go on Vitalbmx and there are some threads of people talking about 22'ers. Or do a google. Might help you know if you wanna go down that road.

One thing is for sure, 20"ers are for more prevalent and parts for that size are more the norm. But obviously some stuff doesn't matter whether it's a 20" or 22". I guess just the rims and tires and tubes. LOL. And frames.
