My LBS, Pleasant Hill, CA

as you may have guessed that is Big Dave’s Bikes. Dave and I have some shared shop history but we’ve never worked it out exactly. Open noon to 5pm these days. One guy working inside so I didn’t bother him. Rather than declare myself a winner I think this thread should now pivot to be pictures of your LBS in this time of ours. I so declare. Go for it!

I vote no on the pivot. That would no longer be the bike pic mission game and no one is going to know who assigns the next mission.

If you want to make it the same mission, I guess that's ok, but whoever does it first names the next mission, that's how it works.

Nothing wrong with starting a "post a pic of your LBS" thread, just don't turn this one into that.

OK, forget my pivot idea. Here’s my new mission.

Pic: bicycle on a bridge over a busy highway. At least three lanes each way. Enjoy!

This photo obviously dates back a few months. I'll defer to anyone who has a more recent photo.

That's a great photo, but the idea is that you have to go do the mission--it's an excuse to ride your bike.

Not an entry, exactly four years ago. Never laugh at a duck....

(After exiting the frame the duck buzzed my head.)

Next mission: ?

(p.s. You need a better pic of your Univega. Early 1980s?)

For the next mission, I would like to see some schools. Plural. I would say... no less than five. Any kind-- preschools, high schools, colleges, whatever. I don't think 5 is even a stretch-- there are like 8 elementary schools within a three mile radius of my house.

\The two branches of my LBS are 16.5 miles from one another, and respectively 7 and 12 miles from my house, so to get both of them in one ride I put in 42 miles this morning. In that distance I probably passed thirty schools.

If it's okay with the rest fo the participants, I'd like to give it say... the weekend? So Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Most schools in one ride takes it.

That was fun; was that duck mad or slightly drunk?

My Univega is more mid 80's I think, a Gran Turismo. Looks just like the one in the catalog with the very excited beardy guy. I got it as a frame and built it up. I like it, but I'm still figuring out what it should be; it's been different versions of not-quite-finished for ages. At the moment it's got a three-speed IGH, but that probably won't last.

I like this pivot!

Can I make a friendly suggestion on the rule so it's easy to judge? How about whoever posts the most pictures of schools by whatever time you pick on Sunday wins? Otherwise, I see a potentially ugly argument coming over what constitutes "one ride". '

Also, if we get a picture in front of a bunch of fish, does that count as a school?

(pardon me, my Univega is the one with the picniccing Agressively Normal Couple, not the one with Grizzly Adams. Anyway, it's probably an '84, that's the point.)

I'm foreseeing a possible logistics issue posting photos. If you give me to Sunday with multiple rides.... well, let's put it this way.. I go by a LOT of schools.

Solutions: Honor system, one ride, may be wise. Also, I plan on posting 3 wide like the following demo to keep the post size from getting out of hand...

If I shoot sign it is legible in 3-wide montage.

Dr. Isotope,

My guess is 9th Street where it crosses over Interstate 215.

I was going to guess Seccombe Lake, but maybe it is Ford Park..

School Marker at 8

14 mile ride produced 8 school pics. (Had I included "kiddie acadamies" and other pre-school and day care, and driving schools, I'd have had about double that.)

Getting pictures of schools around here is like shooting fish in a barrel.

So, what is the next mission???

In the meantime, Univega:

Cover (with Grizzly):

Gran Turismo (with yuppies):

Custom Maxima (with sexist yuppies):

Quarter century ago, “maiden” voyage (with horrible helmet):

Peloton DNF. Next Mission: Swimming Pool

I guess the peloton took a wrong turn (or playing hooky). I'm standing here on the podium all alone...

It is beginning to get hot down here. Highs in the 90's forecast for the week ahead.

Next Mission: Your bike at a public or community swimming pool. (Open or closed, doesn't matter.)

I rode 160 miles this weekend, but somewhere Saturday morning, I realized that I didn't want to spend either of my long rides this weekend getting on and off the bike to take a bunch of pictures. I mention this because the fact that only one person chose to do this last mission tells me that I'm probably not alone in thinking the "one and done" is a lot more fun.

Good mission assignment!

I was put off by the number of other humans I found outdoors. Didn't ride all weekend.
