I did a lot of interstate driving while repping and would stay with a friend in the Roanoke area who worked swing shift. I spent one round (about a month) picking up every guardrail reflector--those trapezoidal-shaped things--I saw that had come undone; the adhesive evidently was not rated for freeze/thaw and they'd shed like crazy at certain times. Had a couple of drywall mud buckets of them by the time I went back to his place. Set them up in his driveway so they'd get his attention when he got home from work at midnight. He liked that.

Yesterday it was live 45 cal pistol ammo strewn about the road and shoulder. I stopped, picked what I Hope was all of it and threw the pile into the woods. Must have been half a box there.

I found a large crescent wrench (not actually crescent branded) while riding about 25 years ago. I still have and use it today.

One time I was riding the "My Old Kentucky Home" tour in Bardstown, with 3 friends. Along the way was a lady we had met who was struggling and she was alone. I decided to help her complete the last 8 miles by encouraging her up several hills, even if it meant me stopping and waiting on her. At one point, I looked down and saw a cycling computer laying on the side of the road. It was a pretty nice one, too. I stuck it in my bag and we kept on trucking.....
When I got back and was reunited with my peeps (who I had encouraged to ride on ahead of me and this lady), my buddy mentioned his wife had lost her computer "somewhere" on the ride. I pulled it out of my bag, and said, "You mean, THIS?!". He was gob-smacked that I had actually found it instead of one of hundreds of other riders on the course that day. That indeed was pretty amazing....

I was riding home about 11pm last night, and found a bouquet of flowers. It was only half run over, and not frozen yet, so I brought it home and cut the other half and now they're brightening my table
Makes me wonder the backstory. My wild imagination goes straight to a story of a spurned Casanova, his would-be lover throwing the bouquet into the street in a huff.

This just happened a week ago:
So I'm cycling along a 4-lane street in a nearby town, and just after passing through a traffic light, I need to weave through some auto-accident debris in the bike lane...wait a minute...one piece of debris was not like the others.
Stopped, went back and picked up a leather case about the size of a book. One compartment was open, revealing a cracked iPad mini. I opened the other compartment to find a checkbook and credit cards, and a thick white sealed envelope. I stuck the case in the trunk bag on my rear rack and continued on my ride.
About an hour later I reached the convenience store where I usually stop for a coffee break. I pulled out my phone and googled the name and city from the checkbook. I called the number that came up and got a secretary who said the guy was out for the rest of the day, but would call him and give him my number.
A minute later he called. He asked the condition of the case. I told him the iPad was cracked but functioning. He said he had just bought a new one anyway, so that was not a big deal, but asked about the envelope. He said he "needed that". We made arrangements to meet at a shopping center along my route home.
We met at the shopping center, and I gave him the case. He examined the iPad, then checked the other contents. Then he commented:
"I really appreciate your honesty, even though you had no idea what you had."
With that, he broke the seal on the envelope, pulled out a 3/8" thick stack of crisp new hundred dollar bills, and gave one to me.
I'll admit it was a lot easier to be honest, thinking I was just returning a broken iPad, checkbook, and credit cards.

I was on a delivery and had cut through a neighborhood. In A front yard right by the road was a dusty, dusty cardboard box. Seemed to have a board game in it. Swung around to peek inside. I saw the word Monogram and got off the bike. Inside was complete untouched model airplane kits from 1967-69 inside. Picked the box up and rolled back to dispatch. Went back to my jump then had one of the ladies drop them by my house.

Yeesh, I’ve seen a HECK of a lot of dead birds, in the last couple months. And I’ve wondered more than once, how in the heck they end up in the middle of a sidewalk, or crosswalk. 🤔

Found a pneumatic grease gun yesterday. I left it there. Too much effort to attempt to lug 20 miles home if it didn't work.
