WTB - 53 cm really cool steel frame.

I would like to buy a really cool steel 53 cm bike frame for a person at my LBS. He has treated me very well over the last 12 years I have lived in Dayton Ohio.

Bob Jackson
Maybe a mint Prologue
Colnago
Mercian

Or the like.

Please send pics and prices if you have a cool 53 cm steel frame.

I am sure he will hand pick and build all components.

Thank you!

There’s a Bob Jackson on the craigslist and eBay thread. And I have a 54 if that would work.

Can I get you a bottled water ? Maybe some Tic-Tacs ? Definitely need your address to send a Christmas Card and some chocolates.
I just went to a website and bought a constellation in your name - I called it James1452Rocks.
You are probably my most favorite poster. I wouldn't even bother coming here if it wasn't for you.
You are, and will always remain in my prayers, and I hope you have a glorious day

Would a 54 c-c st and 54.5 c-c tt work?

De Rosa Professional Faema paint. I'm about a 3 hours drive from you.

I think that would be slightly too big. Sounds like a great frame though. Thank you.

Saves me the trouble of turning it into a frame/fork instead of a Record 10s built bicycle.

Good luck in your search. That's a nice thing to do.

Been at this for almost three years and it occurs to me that I might not get back to it. The frame set is a 1958 Rabeneick 120d, commonly referred to as the Rabeneick Campagnolo. The frame is in great shape, sporting new lacquer paint, color and then clear coated. Now ready for decals, and the complete decal set is included. Anyway, this is, indeed, a cool frame set...

This is what the bike looked like when I was doint the test ride and still acquiring period correct components for the bicycle...

This is what the painted frame/fork looks like right now. The decal set is of excellent quality and included...

Very cool, but different... 1998 Custom Wisconsin
factory modded Reynolds 853 Lemond Zurich. S&S couplers installed and then finished with custom factory paint and decals... It's a stunner, but too small for me. Yes I was aware, but went ahead and bought it anyway. Aspirationally.

I never finished the build. Black Pinarello "most" bars and stem, Campy Record RD w/ carbon face, that was as far as it went.

Lemond, 853 steel, ask someone who's ridden one...
I still have my stock Zurich (that fits).

I also have the S&S Airline hardcase, S&S Velcro frame protection sleeve kit and proprietary wrench.
Show-condition frame and fork, plus the whole S&S package $800, shipped.

Cheers, Eric

More coolness? This bike was ridden alongside Greg Lemond, while on promotional trips for his brand. As close as I was ever gonna get on a bike, to the Maillot Jaune.

That is cool. Wasn't that one of the only two you kept after you did your big N-1?

Also I can't be the only one wondering what size it is and what you are asking for it (though it's probably too big and I probably couldn't afford it).

And I miss your old website.

JJ,
Great thought...do you know that he/she specifically wants the brands that you mentioned...Are you planning on showing him the list of options received?
Another option might be to offer to buy him a frame of his liking with a dollar amount specified by you....that way he could even go up if he paid the difference.
Frames/brands are a very personal choice for a lot of riders etc.

Great point. And that is kind of the path that I have taken. He was pretty specific. Bob. Colnago. So classic and high end. I know he knows a Prologue is a bad ass all around bike because he gave me the history on my Prologue. I did not know. When I rode it I was floored.

So I have shown him the Bob Jackson (which he was interested) and the Alan because he raced Cyclocross for Cannondale.

I asked Tempo and he said no. He and I both love Tempo's, but he wanted a notch up.

Yes, I kept two bikes, the Rabeneick, which has proved to be a touch too small. The frame is 53cm and that is just too small. My Legnano Grand Premio is a 56cm and it is close to just right...

And, I recently got a 58cm Torpado Professional that is even more comfortable for my 70+ years old body...

And, I have another suitable size frame, or darn close to it. An early to mid eighties Bianchi that is cosmetically challenged but good otherwise - $80.00 US plus shipping (wheels are not included)...

So, the Rabeneick is up for grabs. The frame, fork and decal set $800.00 US shipping included...

Rauler

Wish me luck. I put an offer in on a Rauler on eBay.

I bought it, and my friend is excited.

Thank you all!

Jjames,
It is possible to sometimes weld the broken drop out, depends on the break/crack (some dry ice or liquid N to keep the tubes cool from the heat of the weld). Or replacing the dropout. You did have the E-bay buyers insurance didn't you? That should cover the cost of repairs, and re-paint. But it wouldn't be completely authentic at that point.
My Peloton that went to WB suffered the same thing back in 1987, and we were able to braze a new drop out in. It survived till now and has had two paint jobs, and will live for a few more thousand miles. It would be a cool addition to the bike's history that it had been rescued from near destruction and restored to the correct frame dimensions.
I haven't seen anything that nice in a bike lately, but there may still be one out there. best of luck in moving forward on this. Smiles, MH

This was originally earmarked for a special deal like the one you are working on that did not pan out.

It is still on a short list of builds for a couple of special friends but could be diverted.

Dave Moulton Fuso, 53cm, a few nicks and one small ding in the TT but very good condition otherwise.

Would give alot to have this in my size, cool as heck imho.

PM if interested.
