I agree, however we still have to rely on posters' honesty since it's near impossible to determine when exactly a picture is taken (for a non computer buff anyway - there probably are ways even if the EXIF data is not included). A requirement to include a newspaper issued on that day would be slightly over the top, I think

P.S. while we're on topic of rules, there was one glaring violation on page 51, but no one seemed to notice or care.

I'm ok with the honor system--I know I'd feel pretty stupid for intentionally cheating on a game with no stakes. What's the fun in that? I'd hope that's self-policing for that reason.

I can't find the "glaring violation" on page 51 unless you mean my call that a video is a photo. I stand by that because making him do a vidcap to turn it into a still seemed too lawyerly for my taste.

If you meant something else, that was weeks ago, so maybe not worth calling out now. Either object at the time or don't object at all.

Pictures of an invasive plant without a bike in the picture But yeah, whatever, that's buried by time and dust by now.

Dry Waterfall for Consideration

This is a waterfall in Centennial Park in Tulsa OK. No recent rainfall so dry. This is on a creek but was built as part of the park landscaping.

Borrowed my daughter’s bike.

I missed that.

Yup, the whole line is illegitimate now. Hope you're happy!

I'm just kidding, BTW.

I was worried that most falls would be dry around this time of year.... we still have some nearby that I could reach by bike so I figured it was worth a shot.

It’s been 2 days; I would say if there is no other entry by 12am tonight, your dry waterfall wins.

No way was I going to make someone take a picture of their bike next to goatheads. (I trust that they rode to near the goatheads for the mission, dismounted and walked for the pic, but....)

Anyhow, by the time I saw it it was moot anyway.

I think the honor system is mostly working. But I have to admit there are times when I've put an "I'm not sure if this counts" entry that served only to delay the "game" for a few hours.

I'm anxiously waiting for a new mission, as the only local waterfall is about 5,000ft higher than where I'm sitting, and I genuinely don't feel like riding up there right now.

This is compounded by not having any idea where to ride tomorrow. So I hope somebody picks something inside a ~25 mile radius.

New Mission

Dedicated to my mother, who was a geologist.

Next mission: An unusual or smaller-scale geologic feature such as an intrusive dike, a fault, obvious stratigraphy at a road cut, lava flow, fossils, volcanic cone, etc. Let’s rule out common landforms such as valleys and mountains for now. Placer gold nuggets earn bonus points and will clearly document the beginning of the Great BF Gold Rush of 2020.

Stratigraphy, you say? Hwy.38 roadcut, somewhere around mile marker 10, San Gorgonio National Forest. (climbed 2,000ft in 15 miles for this one)

Mmmm, delicious banding. San G is a smorgasbord of mineral types, but predominantly gneiss (the fat white bands,) schists, and sandstone, at least at the altitude of this photo,
around 3,000ft. Up higher in the valley is several thousand feet thick of decomposing granite. That gneiss is Pre-Cambrian. Much of the rock is from volcanic deposition,
permeated with other types brought up through faults. The whole backside of the mountain (towards Landers) is a vast expanse of basalt from the oceanic plate.
The San Andreas Fault runs almost directly up this valley.

That is very nice. Thank you.

I have consulted my able assistants and have arrived at:

Next Mission: Prehistoric life, like fossils in place or dinosaur representation.

I'm getting ready to head out to get a shot of the only dinosaur I can think of within ~50 miles, and I have to climb 2,000ft to get to it. So this mission better still be open when I get back, or so help me!

Mistaken Muffler Man

I was reading about Muffler Men in Wikipedia and when I looked up the list of ones in Oklahoma, the Golden Driller was listed:

The Golden Driller in full COVID-19 mode.

Hey, remember who saved the whales the first time.

I knew I had to look up the height so I could compare it to Big Tex and sure enough, the Golden Driller is 75' tall compared to Big Tex at 55'. However, neither are Muffler Men. The Golden Driller is concrete over steel.

I've edited Wikipedia's list of Muffler Men and removed the Golden Driller.

But I took the pic so while Dr Isotope is out dinosaur hunting, a small diversion.
