Yeah, it was the first. I could tell that it wasn't the best idea within the first third, so I altered the route to stay a little flatter. Still hurt, though I'd occasionally find legs for short pushes.
Started out under clouds and wasn't sure if the sun would come out. It did, though, and was beautiful riding weather. Sharpened up my bib tan lines nicely.

Extra kudos for being able to adjust a route like that on the fly. Were they pretty big route changes or did you just bypass some known climbs?

You just reminded me of a incident a few years ago. I was on tour and riding through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area when I came upon a fawn at the edge of the road. It laid down flat on the pavement like a pancake. Mom came out of the woods and stood over it to protect it. I really wanted to take a photo, but I was so worried that they would get hit by a car that I kept moving to remove the threat.

Ravensburger makes puzzles of varying sizes - the largest are 18,000 and even 40,000 piece puzzles. Some of them are easier (pro-tip - if the picture is just a mosaic of smaller pictures, they tend to be a lot easier). But these things also become a logistical challenge - you need a *large* workspace that you can devote to the thing for an extended period. Even the 2000 piece puzzle stretched the limits of what we could accommodate on our dining room table. It is only because of covid that we knew we wouldn't be having people over, and we could take over 80% of the table for this puzzle, and we started the thing in March when it was still pretty cold out.

Remember they guy who insisted that I order an MRI for him? I told him I did not think insurance would cover it, and the reasons why. He insisted so for customer satisfaction, I ordered it.
I just got a message that, of course, his insurance denied the MRI. But he and his wife are adamant, so they appealed and the next step is peer-to-peer which means I have to waste time on the phone trying to argue his case with some medical school flunky (my so-called peer) to get them to agree to cover a scan that even I don't think is necessary.
I was telling this story to mrs datlas, here is how the conversation went:
datlas: So for my lunch break, I get to waste time on the phone arguing for a stupid MRI scan that I don't even think is needed at this time, and for which I won't get paid a dime for my time. What are YOU going to do for your lunch??
mrs datlas: Not listen to you complaining.
She is pretty good with a quick comeback. :heart:

The cat dish is very close to my hammock. I find that if I remember to top it off during one of my bathroom runs, throughout the night, that the alarm doesn't go off so early. Seems cats are diurnal eaters.

I wrote to a cycling/birding friend, in Maine yesterday, and mentioned the finger amputation in passing. He replied that I am his fourth friend who has lost part or all of a finger in the last two months. Two from tablesaws and two from wood splitters. My accidents continue. In the past week, on the dog walk I do daily, same course, same shoes, same same, I twisted my right ankle so badly that I couldn't walk for a day and a half. And then this morning I stepped on something sharp enough to penetrate the shoe and leave me with a nice puncture wound in my right foot. Something is in the air.

I was a pretty big Phil Collins fan in the very early eighties. I was living on my first farm and was just beginning my 'back to the land' phase. I listened to my cassette player, and 'The Reds' on the transistor radio while clearing the land for the small orchard. I could have really used a mountain bike but they didn't yet exist, except in California.

Just cut out a couple of known climbs. They were actually a little out of the way, anyway - the original plan was to hit a few scenic, quiet roads and the climbs were just a part of that package deal. I'll get 'em next time - I'm still not in mid-season form and I slept like **** the night before, so I wasn't feelin' my Wheaties.

I'm wanting to do a big ride this weekend. Part of me is trying to convince myself to do an imperial but I really don't think I'm ready quite yet. My only imperial route is a hilly 100k plus the distance riding to the start and then back home - I've done it once and I was pretty shelled afterwards. Those damn steep rollers are a killer, especially with a heavy bike.
Yeah, that's usually what hurts me - getting to anything steep enough that it requires/encourages standing late in the day is liable to make my quads twitch in protest, warning of a full work-stoppage if things continue unabated.
Do you have any bailout options if you were to embark on this route?

Not really. The worst of it is coming back from Brodhead after you've already got 60 in your legs. The first and last 20 is all bike path, but it's annoyingly an ever so slight climb most of the way back.
