Commuting/Gravel Bike Build

I'm building a commuter/gravel bike. I'm leaning toward using Ultegra 6800 with Avid BB7 brakes, which I bought about a year ago for another project. I'm removing the components from another bike I've ridden for about a year. I need to purchase a rear derailleur to use 11-32 cassette. I can get the newer Ultegra r8000 for about $10.00. The shifters, crankset, and front derailleur will all be 6800. Any thoughts on mixing the components? I know they're compatible, but any up or downside to using the r8000 rear mech?

For $10? I doubt it. Sounds like quite the commuter - got a covered storage area at work?

I think the current aluminum Haanjo is pretty close to what I’d want.

shimano 11 speed all mixes.

I mean I doubt there are problems, or better options. Just read my response and it was confusing.
What frame are you building this on?

Thanks. Yes, it is, at least from my perspective. I'll put in in my office.

Surly Straggler with the Ultegra 6800 components plus the 8000 derailleur, and the Avid brakes. Thomson seatpost and stem with a Salsa Cowbell 3 handlebar. I got a set of Stan's Grail disc wheels on sale from Performance Bike. I'll use them for awhile, then probably have a set of custom wheels built. I might upgrade the mechanical disc brakes eventually. I've heard and read that TRP Spyre are an upgrade. I may eventually go with Shimano hydraulic brakes, but that will be down the road a bit, in both a literal and figurative sense.

For my purposes, a steel frame works better. It will primarily be a commuter, and gravel bike second. Most of the off road riding I will do will be hard packed dirt roads. Also, I will use it as a light touring bike for weekend trips.

By Shimano 11 speed all mixes, I'm assuming the 6800 and 8000, as well as the 105 and Dura Ace all work well together.

I don't know about their road hydraulic levers, but on MTB, Shimano hydraulics are the shiznit. Skip the Spyre and save up directly for Shimano.

I should walk it back, Shimano 11 speed road all mixes but doesn't mix with 11 speed mountain.
