You might post a little more information. A Brooks saddle would be silly on a Dolan DF4.

Yes, I think you should use a saddle and handlebar tape.

I'm really satisfied with my Specialized Toupe Expert saddle. You can find cheaper and pricier models and the main difference is weight. You might want to measure your sit bone width, add 2cm and order the saddle with the perfect width for you.
But because it's the single speed / fixie forum, I also think that probably anything can work for commuting or riding around the city. If you ride a lot, have numbness or discomfort I think you should pic a well designed road saddle.

If you really want to go deep into this topic I found this article extremely helpful:
The Four and a Half Rules of Road Saddles - Cervélo

Bar tape: just like the saddle it's really a personal thing. Personally I found Fizik's Performance Tacky Black bar tapes the best. But you might look into the regular ones too (they have great colors!). Other brand to check out: lizard skins.

My selle Italia turbo has been great was stiff at first but now is really comfy. Also I imagine any bar tape is fine. I'd probably go with cinelli tape if I ran drops tho or a company that matches other components.

A Brooks saddle is excellent on anything ... provided your rump likes them.

You're just trying to sell him stuff he doesn't need.

I don't go through a lot of bar tape, but did have an excellent run with a roll of Specialized Super Roubaix. It's their thickest tape, went on really well and lasted like crazy ... which is why I can't recommend too many brands.

Another tip is to double wrap your bars. Basically, you use your old roll and wrap the bars in the reverse direction to the top coat - I just do from the brakes back. It gives a thicker, softer grip without being stupid ... if you think you have a need for that sort of thing.

Good saddle? What's your riding position? The more upright your riding position, the wider the seat, and visa versa. You also need to measure your sit bones for any given saddle. Riding stretched and low? -- You need a seat with a "cutout" for all the goodies to get relief.

Bar tape? You can't get more longevity than leather. And you can't get more comfort or lightweight than cork. Use gel inserts on either.

But but but... Which one?
BROOKS ENGLAND LTD. | CATALOGUE AND SHOP | SADDLES

I wouldn't use any of those while riding on aerobars mounted on a correctly sized road racer or TT. Not even an Imperial Narrow or Cambium Carved.

+1 on the toupe and lizard skins, although the s-works toupe is a little much since the pro weighs the same I think. Lots of folks like the lizard skins. I have a cheaper toupe in 155 width and its awesome.

fizik for both for me, but you should try to find a place that lets you try saddles, I've bought my fair share of horrible saddles and had to deal with them until I found my current one. I like the Fizik grip tape from retrogression, its cheap, good grip (bare or gloved), and havent had any issues on any of the bars I've wrapped with it either.

I've also tried Lizard Skin, I liked it when I used it, its got a good amount of cushion and grip when its wet. But after using the Fizik tape I can't justify the price of Lizard Skins...
