Dem bones

"The implication of this result is that healthy bones seem to sense changes in body mass and then somehow initiate alterations to appetite and eating that can return the body to its previous weight, says John-Olov Jansson, a neuroscientist at the University of Gothenburg who led the study.He and his colleagues call the bones’ sensor a “gravitostat,” which is triggered by body weight bearing down on bones, a result of the inexorable pressures of gravity...

The possibility could help to explain why sitting for hours is associated with obesity..."

I'm reading this and thinking that nobody considered any other explanations for what they were seeing. They implanted very heavy pellets into rats' bellies, and then the rats stopped eating; was this because their bones were compensating for the added mass by reducing their appetite, or did they just have uncomfortable bellies full of experimental ballast? Perhaps sitting is associated with obesity because it tricks our bones' sensors, but maybe it's because people don't burn many calories while they sit.

Interesting;
An argument can be made from that article in favor of "standing desks".

They are following a line of research. One explanation didn't pan out, so they are trying another. If this looks promising, a number of people will try similar experiments, trying to figure out what exactly is going on.

Seattle doesn't like this because it's counter to his gaining 25lbs goal.
