Beautiful Campagnolo NOS Rims - Please Diagnose Potential Problem

The accompanying photo tells the story. Beautiful Campy NOS Delta Strada XL Chromium rim...not so easy to find in clincher style. I am well-informed, but not an expert. Please diagnose the gap...does it present a danger or any other problem? It looks like there's a solid weld holding this rim together; moreover, I understand that spoke tension holds the rim together once a wheel is built. However, as you can see, the rim side walls do not connect...hopefully from the photo you can see that a piece of paper or other similar object could slide into the gap.

Safe enough, but a sloppy example. It shouldn't be an issue in theory, but you might find that the wheel will have a slight hop in this location.

I cannot locate any information on Velobase indicating the joint type of this rim, but I'd bet it's sleeved/pinned.

Weight weenies used to have us pull the connecting pins out of rims to make them lighter.

I had a pair of those once, laced to me Sherrif hubs. another guy at work tacoed his rear wheel Delta wheel. I took mine apart and traded them to another guy inthe shop for some Mavic tubular rims. they were nice rims and built up I just didn't want any unwanted mechanical issues. provided you don't lace them radially (which Campi did not recomend at the time) you should be OK

Common enough with Campy rims. If it's a 36 hole rim, it'll pull together once laced and tensioned. 32 hole will do the same, to a lesser extent.

I think I would make some hardwood blocks, drive a nail through the two adjacent spoke holes and clamp it in a vice before building it up.

It'll pull together once tensioned and it is a pinned/sleeved.
