Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Vote: Black or Silver Seatpost

Not the best picture (yet) but I want input from the forum. I'm will be putting on a Thomson Elite seatpost, but can't decide on silver or black. The bike has nice chromed chain and seat stays and silver bits all over. However the fork, rims, and lettering are black. What is the OCP thing to do here?

I think silver looks good now, and matches the silver quill stem and the white saddle.

I think it should match that grey anodized quill stem.

The OCP thing to do would be to change the wheels to silver and the tires to black. Make sure you go with blue nipples. Also, change your quill to silver - it looks ti-like - and go with the silver seatpost.

Or not....it's a beautiful bike nonetheless.

I have seriously considered silver rims.....winter upgrade I think. And yes the stem is ti-like, not aluminum silver.

To go with your white saddle, white bar tape, and silver(-ish) quill stem? No question: seatpost has to be silver.

To be OCP, you need to have matching bars, stem, wheels, and seatpost.

Seat posts should match stems, and saddles should match bar tape. So far you have half of this correct =).

+1 - The silver seatpost doesn't match closely enough. Black would be better but not CF.

See, therein lies the problem. The stem is a really odd titianium like color...it didn't come out too clear in this picture though. It's a kind of greyish dark, metalic color (as are the bars by the way). I do intend to redo the front end with a threadless set up next year and retire the quill.

I knew that stem was gray. If it's anodized you can use oven cleaner to remove it, then polish. You could test below the insertion line.

Noooooooooooooooo....

Please do not retire the quill. The right quill can be soooo sexy. Get a silver one if you must but don't go threadless. Not on this frame. If anything, find the chrome steel fork that originally came with the frame and retire the carbon one. Then you'll have a something really special.

If it's about the weight, you're working with the wrong frame.

Why replace the existing seatpost?

Now that would be sweet. Chrome fork, quill, bars, seat post, wheels, pedals, & cages. Black tires. White seat & tape.

It's pretty sexy already though. I love that frame.
